Xbox One seems to be selectively recognizing discs

My Xbox One (original model) has started doing something that's pretty annoying. My One used to play discs instantly with only the occasional instance of it not recognizing the format of game discs, but now the drive doesn't seem to register at all.

The drive will take the disc, make some combination of buzzing and slight movement of the laser's motor, and then nothing. It makes a different noise nearly every time and the disc does not spin at all. My One won't recognize that there's a disc in the
console and I can't do anything with the disc when it's in, but hitting the eject button works as normal. After a minimum of 6-7 insertions the disc will finally decide to read, giving me the telltale sounds of it actually scanning the disc and spinning it.
This happens every single time I've had to insert a disc into the console for the last several months.

The drive will read the disc perfectly once it "catches", it's just the process of getting the disc to read that's the issue.

Xbox one console not reading discs

So I picked up a console for 10 bucks it was missing some pieces so I replace what it needed and booted it up. It would not read discs, I dont see a spinning gear or anything showing that it recognizes that there is a disc in it. So I bought a new laser and tray and replaced it. Same thing, it will spin for about 3 seconds and stop. Xbox never recognizes the disc. I reset the xbox, tried it, updated it, tried it.. nothing.

This Troubleshoot disc errors on Xbox one may assist you.

Try the following solutions if none of your discs will play, or if you insert a disc and your console doesn't recognize it. If your Xbox Home screen tells you to insert a disc when a disc is already inserted, that means it doesn't recognize
your disc. In these scenarios, there are two possible issues:

The settings for instant-on power mode can render a small number of consoles unable to read discs.
The console's disc drive needs servicing.

Solution 1: If you use instant-on power mode, change power modes and power cycle the console

Press the Xbox button
to open the guide.
Select System > Settings > Power & startup >
Power mode & startup.
Select Power mode, and then select Energy-saving.
Perform a "hard power cycle" by holding down the Xbox button
on the console for 10 seconds. Once the console has completely shut down, press the
Xbox button on the console again to restart it.
Try your disc again. Wait a few seconds to see if the console recognizes it. If the console can now read the disc, you can revert to instant-on power mode.
