Xbox One S/X Support for HDR in 1080p

Are there any plans to patch the Xbox One S/X so that it will support outputting HDR without needing 4K enabled? Currently, unless the Xbox One detects that 4K60 or 50 is supported with HDR it won't output HDR even with the console
resolution set to 1080p. The PlayStation 4 and 4 Pro already support this so it was frustrating to find out that the Xbox One X didn't support this after I bought it. The reason I ask is that I have a 4K HDR display, but the bandwidth on its HDMI chipset
is set too low to allow the use of HDR at 4K60, just 4K24 or HDR in lower resolutions so 1080p HDR works just fine. Also, there are some PC monitors that are HDR, but not 4K and would benefit from this as well.

    :)

  2. 1080P HDR support

    Hi,

Only the Xbox One S and the One X support HDR. HDR isn't linked to resolution, so, technically, HDR can work at 1080P. However, in the interest of not confusing consumers, Microsoft have locked HDR to 4K displays only, which is mostly industry standard
anyway. I'm pretty sure even 1440P doesn't support HDR on One S or One X either.

    1080P HDR support

I understand that HDR is not related to resolution and that most 1080P displays that do support it are less common that 4K displays, but there are definitely models that do, mine included.

I can play PS4 games on 1080P with HDR but not XB1 games.. I don't understand why MS isn't supporting HDR alongside 1080P ?

Xbox One X HDR in 1080p

You'll be able to set the output of the Xbox One X to 1080p, and if a game supports HDR then the console will use it, I mean the Xbox One S supports HDR, so no reason why the Xbox One X would only allow it at 4K.

Will xbox one support 1080p HDR like PS4 does?

I'm more interested in knowing if Xbox One S/X will support 1080p and HDR for gaming. I'm fine with ignoring 4k for now.
    Thank you!

Yes, it does. HDR does not depend on 4K output. If your 1080p television supports HDR, then it will work for the games that have HDR color palettes available. It is up to the developer to enable this option in their games.

The only Xbox One family console that does not support HDR for gaming is the original, first-generation Xbox One.
