Xbox One S won't power on with controller

I just bought my Xbox One S yesterday to upgrade from the original Xbox One. After setting everything up the way I had my previous Xbox, I have been unable to power on my Xbox with the controller. I can turn it on by pressing the power button on the console
and then power on the controller. I also have an issue powering down the console with the controller. After holding the home button down on the controller, I choose the option to "turn off my console" and then it powers down the Xbox but the controller remains
on.

In my settings, I have Instant On set. Like I mentioned previously, I have the same exact settings on my One S as I did on the One. Is anyone else having this issue with their Xbox One S? If anyone could help me with this issue, I would greatly appreciate
it.

I have synced my controller with my console. I resynced the controller again tonight to make sure that wasn't the issue.

Thanks for your post. To troubleshoot this, try a soft factory reset. This will keep your games and applications installed but reset the Xbox's operating system to defaults to eliminate any possible issues. Here's how to do so:

Xbox One Factory Reset Be sure to keep your Microsoft account information ready to sign back into your account and choose
"Reset and keep my games & apps" to properly perform a soft factory reset.

Hi, with the Xbox powered on press and hold the power button on the Xbox for 10 seconds, when the Xbox powers off pull the power cord out of the back of the Xbox and leave it out for two minutes. Reconnect the power cord and power the Xbox on again using
the power button on the Xbox. That should then resolve your issue.

 

Having the very same issue. Funnily enough tested the xbox one s with the original black controllers and it turned on and off as it did with my original xbox one. Can only assume this is an issue with Bluetooth rather than infrared controllers....Not best
pleased as seems a backward step

 

Did you try that though ? The newer controllers work in the same way as the older controllers connection wise, bluetooth was added for connecting to a bluetooth enabled PC more than anything.

 

Have you by chance plugged this new controller in via USB as well as checked for a controller and console update?
