Xbox One S with Netgear R7000

    Hey guys,

So I'm trying to pin down the issues of my download speed on my Xbox One S. I currently have the 150 premier package from Cox. Running a Motorola SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 modem connected into a R7000 firmware 1.4.30. I've tried many other versions of the firmware
for the router itself with same results. I'm able to get near or over those download speeds with all my devices except the X1S. I usually range around 15-25mbps on my download end according to network statistics with signal strength at 100% and ping is 55-60ms.
Never once have I been able to get that ping any lower then that, even though it sits 10 feet from the router. I've changed my DNS manually on the X1S to Google DNS servers and that did nothing. Now what's really odd, is that when I clear my mac address and
the system restarts I get a lot more speed. Usually ranging from 70-100mbps. So I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Is it the X1S compatibility with the R7000? I've even tried wired and was getting similar results as well.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    :)

    Best Router For Xbox One?

Netgear R7000 is one of the best routers available at the moment IMO. It plays very nice with my Xbox One and has had rock solid performance since day one.

Some routers can have issues with multiple x1's. I had this issue and nothing fixed it. I bought a netgear r7000 and now have no issues. I have 2 x1's and 2 360's in the house that are sometimes all on.

You do know the download speed test on the console pings the servers in Redmond, WA.

If you don't live in the area its going to be high.

Oh it does? Gotcha! I was thinking it went based on geolocation and they had different servers you'd connect to. That solves that issue. Now just trying to figure out what's going on with DL. I just think it's crazy that clearing mac temporarily semi-solves
it. Giving me a lot more speed then before.

    try OpenDNS servers 208.67.222.222 · 208.67.220.220.

and i assume when you say that you clear out the MAC address, you're referring to the MAC address field on the Xbox? it should not make a different as the MAC address is the physical address of the network card and cannot be removed or changed, it is just
the xbox software that is able to mask it.

is your 2.4 and 5Ghz wireless using different SSID? i know by default Netgear will use something like NETGEAR86 and NETGEAR86-5G, are you using the defaults? is your Xbox connecting to the 5G?

have you put in any custom settings into the router? QoS? port forwarding? anything beyond the default settings?

and there are different servers out there, i live in Iowa and when i was looking into where the Xbox was going to run the speed tests, the IP address was registered in West Virginia or some where in that area. either way it was not close to me and always
ended up with 60ms+ ping time, even though my ping time to the Titanfall 1 server was 25-27ms.

you might just want to download a free game to see how fast it goes, in hindsight, i seem to remember when i was seeing where the speed tests were going, it was only doing very short spikes of traffic, and doesn't seem very reliable.

Clearing out MAC address in the advanced network settings on Xbox. Then if I ever restart the console for any reason the speeds go way back down. Very weird issue. I'll try those OpenDNS servers and see. I'm using the 5GHZ band for my devices. All custom
SSID names, not Netgear default. I have all ports forwarded that support says to open, and UPNP is disable as it caused even worse issues with it not working properly. Not using an QOS settings, and have WMM enabled for both bands.

Just applied OpenDNS servers and "Network Statistics" now testing above 150mbps for my speed. Never been able to do that. I'm going to shut down my X1S and bring it out of stand by to see if the speeds stay.

try disabling WMM, don't know how much it would affect Xbox Live(if at all) as it is an automated form of QoS and in Belkin and Cisco routers i've first hand seen this feature slow internet browsing to a crawl, haven't seen an issue with Netgear, but might
    be something else to try.

Update : Came out of stand by to speeds staying above 150mbps. So what I'm hoping is after the system has been sitting in stand by longer that it'll keep those speeds. Will keep testing! I also changed my DNS on the router level as well to OpenDNS.

I've disabled that before and it did nothing for the Xbox One. It did in fact lower speeds on my other devices including my PC.
