Xbox One S with LG SJ9 Soundbar

I have an Xbox One S w/ the latest update and just purchased an LG SJ9 soundbar.

When I try under audio settings to activate Dolby Atmos for home theater it gives me an error saying my receiver is not compatible

I'm connecting my Xbox One S HDMI OUT to the HDMI IN port of the soundbar.

Error code is: 0x80bd0038 (which does not show up in any searches on this support site).

The soundbar will do dolby atmos with other devices.

Dolby atmos not recognizing sound bar

I have also got the same issue where my Xbox one s does not recognise my LG sj9 atmosphere soundbar for outputting atmos to, I downloaded the Dolby app and I keep getting error 0x80bd0038 when I try to turn atmos on in sound options on Xbox. The annoying
thing is I only brought the xbox to stream Netflix atmos programs on.

I have the same problem - I have my Xbox one S connected to my ATMOS enabled LG 2017 TV and then to the Atmos enabled SJ9 via ARC and neither sound output is recognised as supporting Atmos by the Xbox when I try to enable it as the bitstream out format.
A direct connection of the xbox to the SJ9 via the HDMI in connection also fails. Bitstream out with Dolby digital works fine.

Atmos works fine from other sources.

I have same setup and same problem.

 

I have the same problem with the same error code. I believe their software detection algorithm needs to be updated for earlier generation Atmos receivers / Atmos compatible receivers.

My receiver supports Atmos. I play UHD movies through the xbox in Atmos (via BD app audio pass-through). However, the official settings page to select "Dolby Atmos for home theater" does not recognize my receiver as capable of it. It gives me the same error
code 0x80bd0038

Equipment Details:

Receiver: Sony STR-ZA1000ES (2014)

TV: Samsung 65KS850D (2016 Series 8 4K)

Xbox: Xbox S (latest updates as of 20170708)

Cables: 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 (each tested)

Receiver Note: It was made in 2014 and technically supports Dolby TrueHD. Atmos is built off TrueHD and was designed to be compatible with all TrueHD systems (to my research knowledge). That's why it works with Bluray Atmos playback.

I will note that it was tricky to get the BD app ok with sending Atmos to the receiver. You have to either put the receiver in "Listen Only" mode and not pass the signal, or (I just discovered) have it plugged into the only 4K capable input (marked HDCP
2.2) which was not apparent to me at first.

It also doesn't seem like xbox s is detecting my tv capabilities when the signal goes through the receiver (straight pass through). from xbox to tv, all 4K options are green. Through the receiver, it only shows a few 4K options. Since
it should be a straight pass-through, maybe xbox isn't detecting things very well.

 

I have the same problem with the SJ9 with the same error message via ARC and HDMI in.
