Xbox One S vs. Xbox One X vs. native 4K Budge Blu-Ray (U875) for Playing 4k Blu Ray Films

Recently acquired a native 4K TV (which I'm still guessing is better than upscaling though I'm partially confused about the ups and downs of upscaling are if anyone can tell me ) and currently have an Xbox 360 and am ready to upgrade.

I have a question re: Xbox One X and/or Xbox One S vs. native 4K blu ray player (LG has one for $80 right now (UP875).

Which is best/adequate/etc. for playing 4K movies? Is it better to fork out the dough for a (lightly or refurbished) used Xbox One X or get a (lightly or refurbished) used Xbox One S or the budget blu ray player? To put differently: the question is whether
the Xbox One X or S (and I realize I've got Xbox fans here) can play movies (which I actually care about more than gaming--Blade Runner 2049 being my most favorite film) as *well* as a native 4k blu-ray player; the LG got high ratings from Cnet.

Still, can the relatively untrained eye tell the difference in terms of playing films?

The debate is confusing and unclear about this online. If anybody can help navigate the fog that would be cool.

    :)

Unable to play 4k hdr blu ray 0x91d70001

    Hello,

I bought an xbox one S yesterday. (I'm in France)

    I made a test as I have a 4k tv.

I have a 4k blu ray bought this week too. (wonder woman)

When inserted the film never starts: it remains with the blue splash screen of the blu ray player application, with the animated circle keeping on turning. When I remove the disk: i get the error 0x91d70001.

Knowing that i have another 4k blu ray worked perfectly (batman vs superman), why the first one doesn't work ?!

Upscaling basically stretches the picture to match the resolution of your display (e.g. 1080p game/movie will be stretched to fit your 4K display resolution). The main difference between the S and X is the hardware, which is mainly utilized for games. The
S will render games up to 1080p and upscale to 4K. The X is able to render and output at native 4K (only if the game is "Xbox One X Enhanced").

Both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X play 4K movies the same. They can both output movies in
native 4K, as well as optionally support HDR (HDR10 profile). You just have to be sure that you are streaming in 4K or use a UHD Blu-Ray, and your TV set supports it.

Go for the Xbox One S if you want a 4K movie player with the option to game. If its movies you only care about, and you want to spend the
least amount of money, then go for the LG player you mentioned.

This is clear, concise, and helpful. TYVM.

Yes, I have a native 4K TV, which is driving this inquiry. Yes, there are some streaming content in 4K (Netflix at the forefront w/ Amazon Prime not far behind!?) and I assume will only increase (rapidly? slowly?). Furthermore (and I have a cheap Sony 1080
Blu-Ray right now), I will almost exclusively using Blu-Ray DVDs, though the UHD Ultra 4K titles are not currently numerous and I'm not willing to buy and not sure if they are rentable (Redbox, Netflix hard copy) or public libraries will be putting them in
the catalog atm. But will they become more common I'm guessing , yes (or is it no?)? I'm also guessing 4K (Enhanced) will become more common as well (or not?) in gaming.

I'm hoping one day I can get native 4k TV, content, and player (the trifecta), it will be just like watching a 35mm print in the theater (that is the end goal for me) or games on a PC that have a high end graphics card. But I can only do this piecemeal
    atm.

I currently have the 4k TV but I can't really afford the Xbox One X or a native 4K blu-ray player and Xbox One S combo (or maybe I can depending). The question is can I can *best of both worlds* with only the X or does it not produce a picture as good as
    a stand alone 4k player.

Another question that may help is whether is whether the picture on my 4k TV will stretch my 1080 content as delivered through my 1080 player/Xbox/streaming service in such a manner as to make the picture look worse than it was in 1080? Unnatural so to
    speak.

Again the help is most appreciated.

My experience is that the consoles, both the One S and the One X, are problematic for disc playback. Title updates are slow to happen, audio output is only now coming up to par with stand alone receivers and sound bars and there are fidelity issues still
with color spaces and how the Xboxes display them without overdriving (commonly called crushing) black and white ranges for HDR and 1080p display.

To me a stand alone player from a major producer like LG or Sony will be easier to use and less frustrating going forward and take just a few minutes to update when firmware updates are released.

As far as scaling non 4K content while it is dependent on the particular set most 4K sets do a very good job of this. It doesn't look fake. Motion Interpolation is what produces the fake look i.e. soap opera effect. That can be turned off in the TV settings.
For gaming that is desirable as those modes introduce controller lag.

    4K content

Xbox One and Xbox One S are 1080P Gaming

Xbox One S will play 4K Blu Ray's

Xbox One X will play Game in 4K if they are Enhanced with 4K Support + 4k Blu Ray support

They Xbox One X will also Upscale on a 1080p screen so you will see some benefit of the Xbox One X

Playing Xbox 360 on 4k TV Problems

Thanks for replying! And I think you are correct for the most part;. is the best way to not see any is to get native/upscaled 4k content and players (console and blu ray)?

I did find out that that part of the problem is that I hadn't played ME in a loong time so I forgot the resolution and had a false expectation. I'm not sure why Arrival looked less good, but I did get a library copy of the Blu ray and compared and it
seems that my eyes are seeing more differences than actually might be there. I realize also that in the showroom, the pictures always look better b/c they are using native 4k content, etc.

This all leads me to a question re: Xbox One X vs. native 4K blu ray player (LG has one for $80 right now (UP875). Given that due for an Xbox upgrade (played about as many games as I like on the 360) as I'd like to keep only to
two upgrades behind, it is better to fork out the dough for a used Xbox One X or get a Xbox One S and the budget blu ray player? The question is whether the Xbox One X (and I realize I've got Xbox fans here) can play movies (which I adore and check out as
many Criterion Classics as I can) as *well* as a native 4k blu-ray player; the LG got high ratings from Cnet.

Anyway, will be asking this on an Xbox One forum, but anyone who cares to answer here is appreciated.
