Xbox One S voice control

Will I need to have a headset with a mic or to pay $50 to connect my Kinect to the Xbox One S to use voice commands? Or since the S is coming with an IR Blaster will it have a built-in mic as well?

This is question is Imparitive for me to make a decision as to trade in my Xbox one for the Slim. Trying to know if I should wait for Project Scorpio and not have a Slim or trade in for the slim and buy the Scorpio as well. Currently I only have one Xbox
in my living area but wouldn't mind one upstairs in our spare room we use if someone wants to watch something else. Would be used for streaming content in the future.

We use the voice command system all the time, so its a big deal. Could care less for the video/motion sense ability of the Kinect though.

Any idea?

My question would be ,what all will it control by voice...Will it control an AVR 's inputs and volume ?

All Xbox Ones will be able to use the mic or the Kinect for voice commands with the summer update. From what I hear, the IR blaster will only be able to turn devices on/off.

 

IR on Kinect does a bunch of things with the TV especially when using Smart Glass. I can't see them limiting it to just power on power off.

Its nice to walk in to a room tell your Xbox on and watch ESPN. Freakin awesome.

 

I love voice commands. They're so much faster than using a controller.

As there is no integrated mic on the S, you would have to wear the headset to change your channels.

 

The Kinect was only good for me because of its ability to use IR and voice control. I could care less if it could see me. Voice control needs to be without the restriction of wearing a headset for it to work fluidly. I think they should have a mi connect
option through USB at the very least to solve that problem.

 

trust me, having cortana working through the headset or kinect is going to drive alot of people away as it does not work.
