XBox One S - unable to find microphone / mute / can't chat

Having same issue with my sons xbox one. Have tried everything listed and still not working. I have searched and read other people reporting this problem too. Have tried all the suggestions made by them as well. Just here looking for answers.

yep - already done the factory reset to no avail!

im a little loathe to buy new adaptor in case that isnt the problem (especially as ive already invested in new headsets).

I’ll try to set something up with customer support

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this difficulty. Now, if the troubleshooting steps did not help, then I would try a soft reset as well for good measure, steps for which you can find in

How to reset your console to factory defaults on Xbox One.

Just make sure that before you go ahead with it, that you do know all of the sign-in information for any/all of your accounts(asthey
will be removed) and have easy access to your internet network.

Also make sure that you select the option denoted
reset and keep my games
&
apps.

I don't think you need to send it back outright, but maybe getting a repair for the controller could thing to try. You can always contact customer support
to consult with an agent to have them get one set up for you directly, or visit

device support and try and set one up yourself.

Also, to emphasize what Brad had talked about earlier, trying out an Xbox One Stereo Headset adapter could totally help with this issue too. It was designed to help the controller accept and recognize third party (non-Microsoft) headsets.

When you get a chance, feel free to give those steps a go and let us know how that went.

Thanks Dan - it has been about a month now. today is the first day i've been able to get him off Fortnite long enough to try to fix it!!!

He's only had it since Xmas - so am wondering whether I ought to see if I can take it back.

oh - and also just realised that the Skype wasn't working!

Any other ideas?
