    XBOX One S UHD/BD feeds to a 1080P screen

I Just bought an XBOX One S Minecraft edition and it will not be here until the end of next week. I also have 6 UHD/BD disks. Can I play a UHD/BD disk on this unit and feed a 1080P input and get a 1080P picture on my TV/ Will it dumb it down?

Reason I ask is I need to check the disks and player as best I can with a UHD BD.

    Thanks,

    :)

4K UHD BD is played but in 1080p

    Hi,

I just bought xbox one s. I am having issue on playing 4K UHD BD. It seems that it is played in 1080p on the 4K TV, LG 49UB850T (no HDR) which is connected to xbox one s directly (no AV Receiver in between) using HDMI cable from xbox one s.

Here is xbox one s setting.

And here is info from blu ray player when it is playing 4k UHD BD. It is said 2180p 23.98 fps.

However when I check on TV info, it's said 1080p 24Hz.

Anyone has same issue and has been resolved?

    Thanks.

  3. is 4k possible on 4k laptop when i have an original xbox?

Unfortunately no. And an Xbox One S won't give you 4K gaming either. The Xbox One S only does 4K (with or without HDR) for video streaming or 4K UHD Blu-ray.

Games on the original Xbox will only play in 1080p and the maximum streaming quality for the Xbox App on Windows is 1080P anyway. Because your laptop's display will be 4K or 3840x2160, games will display in that resolution, but it will be an up-scale, not
a true 4K feed. Some games may look better, but you're not getting a 4K experience. That will only be a achievable on the up-coming Xbox X while connected via HDMI to a 4K screen.

Hi NorthPancake315, provided your A/V gear supports HDCP 2.2 you should be good to go. According to a very informative article written by the editors of High Def Digest, all 4K discs support resolutions below this threshold. Here's a primer to catch you

So I have a 1080P Samsung 8000. It May not be 2.2. No data online.

Probably the 2.2 handshake will not occur but I should still be able to play a BD on the XBOX. Right?

Hi NorthPancake315, I'm no expert regarding the finer details, but having checked that High Def Digest article myself, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to take advantage of lower resolutions on the UHD discs without owning a 4K television. I own the Xbox
One S as well, and while it's foolish to think you might 'see' a difference by playing UHD at FHD (on a 1080p screen) - if that were possible - that doesn't mean you're foolish to try.

I've bought dedicated '4K' remasters of films (eg, Leon The Professional and Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and there's no doubt you can see the difference in 1080p - there's just a higher density all around - but ideally you should be looking at upgrading to
4K to fully take advantage of Xbox One S. And yes, the system will play standard Blu-rays, but you need to install the BD player.

And sorry, but I don't know what you mean by "full up" manual. Maybe somebody else can help?

I will mess with it this weekend and see what is possible and post the results here. I plan on getting a UHD TV but there are no great sales going on this minute for the higher end ones. Cheaper ones can be had dirt cheap but you get what you pay for. Maybe
a cheaper one for a spare room. TBD.

Prefer 800/8000 series and above for all TVs as I can see the difference.

BTW/ thanks all for the quick help. XBOX One S UHD/BD feeds to a 1080P screen :)
