Xbox one s ticking sound when off

I just got a brand new xbox one s from gamestop, plugged it in and noticed the ticking sound. Didnt think much about it until I turned it on and also heard the sound there. The sound when off honestly doesnt bother me too much as I cant really hear it
unless I am up close. But I guess my question is this really a big problem that id need to replace my system for? Ive seen people have to go through multiple systems to fix the problem, and if its not going to cause me any actual harm should I actually go
through with replacing it? It doesnt bother me too much so i could probably learn to live with it. But I wanna make sure it wont actually be bad if I dont replace it.

Weird Noise coming from Power Brick

My issue is that the fan ticks. The console is set up in a bedroom. When everything is turned off (or on standby), I hear this fast "tick, tick, tick" from the Xbox One PSU. I specifically built my PC to be as close to silent as I could make it, so I can
even hear the Xbox One PSU ticking over the sound of my PC when that's turned on. I'm not saying that the noise is "loud", because it's not. But any noise that can clearly and constantly be heard when a product is supposedly turned off is not good, especially
an annoying ticking sound.

New Xbox One S Ticking Fan Noise - Normal?

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a new Xbox One S ( the 1TB Forza bundle ). It's only a week old, and I am already hearing this low-level, constant ticking/clicking/purring noise, which I'm assuming is coming from the fan.

It's not super loud or buzzing or anything. But it's just "there" and noticeable enough to hear it even when playing a game or watching a movie with the volume up. It's just this constant, faint, tick-tick-tick-tick-tick sound.

Is this what the Xbox One S fan normally sounds like? Or should I be concerned I have a defective unit?

If it were me I would take it back and exchange it as that is not a normal noise.

The fan can't hit the wire as it is above it, I don't think it is something to worry about, most cooling fans make a noise, my Xbox One makes that sound but I barely notice it

As previously stated, this is a wide-spread issue. Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzV4U1LJuO0 to hear what someone recorded or simply Google "Xbox One S ticking

No external drive, no overheating, does not occur during normal use...only when console is off (energy saver mode). I am sure Microsoft is aware of this issue, and as I previously stated, there are no problems during normal use....everything works just fine.

Thanks for the video that was very helpful in hearing what the sound is.

That said couple of things, and please note this is best guesses since I can't really dig around and see what might be going on.

1) Sounds like a good doggo in the background keeping your house safe from squirrels. Good dog.

2) It could be a couple things that I would look at first. Power or hard drive

For power, I would troubleshoot by unplugging the console and plugging it into a different outlet. Make sure not to plug it into a strip, UPS, or surge protector. Let it run on that outlet for a while and power down and see if the issue persists there.

I have seen hard drives make a similar clicking sound when they are going bad. Make sure you have any external drives disconnected. Check your settings on the console to see if it has the option to turn off the hard drive when powered down (even if it's
power save mode, see if that option is available) and select to allow the console to turn off storage. Test to see if you hear the sound.

It might also be a good idea to take your console to a safe space outside and clean the console with canned air to see if anything is stuck in there, possibly?

If the issue persists, then I might recommend looking into creating a service request for the console via
Microsoft Device Support.

Try those steps one by one and let us know if it persists or anything changes, and we might be able to provide some further troubleshooting steps.
