Xbox One S surround sound no longer working (0x80bd0009)

    Hi all

I upgraded to a Xbox one S not too long ago

I noticed when I connected my Kinect and run the setup it was not running 5.1. I checked the settings, HDMI and optical audio was set to stereo. I tried changing HDMI audio to 5.1 but just gives me the error code (0x80bd0009)

    Here is my setup

(Open to changes if I have setup incorrectly)

    Samsung UE49KU6670U 4K LED

    Samsung HT-E6500W cinema system

    Xbox One S

I have my Xbox One S connected directly to the TV HDMI 1 because if it's run through the cinema system I don't get 4k. I have my turtle beach connected to the optical on the xbox

I have my cinema system connected to HDMI 2 and optical to the TV

The TV speaker select in on receiver (HDMI), if i select Audio out/optical I get no sound

If there's any other info that's useful please let me know, im hoping someone can save me having to pay out for a 4k cinema system

    Thanks all

    Jason

    :)

  2. Upgraded to Xbox One S and lost 5.1 audio

    I have a Vizio P65-C1 and the VIZIO SB4551-D5.

Ran the original Xbox One and had no issues with 5.1 surround sound.

Now nothing. I can only get 2.0. 0x80bd0009 is the code I get.

    Any ideas?

Finally solved it by switching my tv audio over to bitstream and setting the hdmi audio on the xbox to bitsream, and selecting dolby digital.

Hello, i had the same problem with my HDMI home-theater, i couldn't get HDMI sound passtrough 5.1 (error 0x80bd0009) probably due to 4K resolution. I found a solution so i hope it could help you, it just need to be configured first in manual 1080P, it's
just a bug of the autodetect resolution mode that almost never works for passthrough sound even in 1080p now. First you need to switch in display and sound TV connection from Auto-detect to HDMI. Then you'll have a poor resolution. You'll have to switch to
1080P and then accept all the options available in advanced video options and on the right for games and apps, don't forget to select : Allow 4k. When you'll have done this you'll need to go in audio output and select under speaker audio HDMI audio and 5.1
passthrough (or 7.1 depending on your home-cinema). Here you shouldn't get the error code (0x80bd0009). Then you'll just need to get back to Display and sound and go back to Display Auto-detect and then go back to 4k resolution. It worked for me as i was getting
the same error for month, after xbox upgrade, while at first it worked perfectly with the same material. Hope this will help you! Bye.

Upgraded to Xbox One S now surround sound no longer works (0x80bd0009)

I can assure you that the concern has been raised, and this is what we have been told. I have worked with the men that Spoopy has mentioned earlier in this thread to make sure I fully understand the issue at hand. This cannot be reversed because the technology
to use 4K is more strict than regular HD, and this can only be changed once the requirements for the technology is changed.

Dolby HD is supported via hardware upgrades, and the reason why the Xbox One S is not supporting that is because in order to keep up with that technology, the hardware would also need to be upgraded in the console. Instead, we went the route of HDR, which
is basically "open source" Ultra HD, as this is upgraded via firmware instead.

Because the original poster has already resolved his issue with a remote capable of changing the settings in his TV, and because there is nothing on the side of Xbox that we can do to make this work, this thread will now be locked. If anyone has any other
support issues that they would like assistance with, please feel encouraged to post up a new detailed thread so that our community can work on helping you out. Thanks for understanding!

This is not an issue to the TV. This needs to be corrected by Microsoft.
