xbox one s stuck in 640 x 480

So I've had my one s for quite a few years now never really had a problem out of the blue one day I go to watch some Netflix and the screen is way smaller then its suppose to be couldnt figure out why looked some other posts that had the same issue and
played with the settings some. Here's how I fixed mine i went to ideo fidelity& overscan. Changed display overrides to hdmi (cause thats what I use). It still looks bad so go back to tv & display options at first there wasn't a different resolution so I changed
the refresh rate from 60 Hz to 120 Hz made the TV go crazy but it gave me more options when I went back to resolution set it to 1080p and the refresh rate went back to 60 Hz and the screen was back to normal. Of course now if I try to put the overrides back
to auto it goes back to 640 x 480. Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

I've had the same problem some times, I usually just reset the Xbox and everything gets back to normal!

It will not work on any other resolution besides the lowest one (640 x 480)

What you have done is put into the lowest setting. You just need to go into the display settings and change the display back to the setting you have been using. Instructions how to can be found here

People help the council! Xbox One S - starts only in 640 x 480 mode. All tried, at home three telecoms all 4K UHD, on one does not want to translate a signal 640 x 480 in 4K or 1080P. - the write action did not work (in the image setup menu). Restart two
buttons "Xbox" and "Eject" for 10 seconds did - does not help! Cables HDMI changed - a sense of zero. Auto detection - in additional settings it costs. Resetting the settings to the factory did not help. OSU1 - stitched - did not help.

Given you have tried multiple monitors and cables, then it does point to your console likely being at fault. The 640x480 is like a default display when there are issues....my Series X used to periodically display this on start-up as, for some reason, it would not detect the 4k side of my TV....luckily it always resolved by unplugging the HDMI lead and plugging it back in again.
