Xbox One S stuck at 640 x 480 resolution

My Xbox One S is stuck at a resolution of 640x480 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. My TV and monitor can be used to view it as they support this resolution but unfortunately the quality is really poor.

I have tried a factory reset, and I have also tried different monitors and TVs as well as different HDMI cables. I am really stuck.

As this is occurring on all TVs / monitors, I have ruled out that they are the problem, I have also ruled out the cable as the problem; therefore, the xbox must be faulty.

I have also attempted to change the display settings on my xbox, TV and monitor but it does not fix the problem. Changing the xbox settings causes the screen to black as the monitor can not support it, at first I thought that the monitor was the problem but as this occurs on all monitors and TVs then the xbox must be the problem.

My idea is that there maybe a fault in the HDMI port or something causing the HDMI port to fail, if anyone has some information on this, I would be really grateful.

It will not work on any other resolution besides the lowest one (640 x 480)

Given you have tried multiple monitors and cables, then it does point to your console likely being at fault. The 640x480 is like a default display when there are issues....my Series X used to periodically display this on start-up as, for some reason, it would not detect the 4k side of my TV....luckily it always resolved by unplugging the HDMI lead and plugging it back in again.

Hello Justin,

Thanks for coming to the forums. On the console
power cycle the console off, but do not turn it back on. Once off want you to hold the power and eject button for 15 seconds or until you hear 2 beeps. This resets the resolution. Once done then try and go adjust the settings. Also try different HDMI port
on the TV.

Therese a problem with your tv connector. Try to use your console on a different TV!
