Xbox One S: Sleep mode question

My Xbox One S is connected to a Philips monitor. I used to have the OG Xbox One before this, also with the same monitor. I tend to shut down the console via the controller. However, even after shut down, it would keep waking up my monitor every few minutes.
It did not use to happen with the OG Xbox One. What setting am I missing? It is especially annoying as the monitor would light up my room when I am trying to sleep.

when in sleep mode external hard drive does not turn off.my question is, is it safe to unplug the hard drive when xbox one in sleep mode ?does this run the risk of damaging the drive or anything stored on it?

 

One S never connects to network first boot - always have to restart

I have the same issue. I have determined it has to do with Sleep Mode. If I use Sleep Mode, I cannot power it up and connect to the Xbox One S from Windows 10. If I change it from Quick Boot to Energy Saving, then It works every time.

I want to ask some clarifying questions first. When you turn off your Xbox, are you turning off your monitor too or putting it in a Sleep mode?

Do you have your Xbox plugged into a surge protector or power strip that is shared with your monitor?

Have you tested a night where your Xbox is not plugged into the monitor to see if the issue is re-created but with the Xbox unplugged?

I don't know what can be causing that, but I do know that in Instant-On mode the Xbox is receiving small amounts of voltage to keep your games updated. This may cause a power surge to your monitor with enough voltage to turn it on. That is just speculation,
but figured that could be the cause.

Thanks for your response. Here are the answers to your questions:

When you turn off your Xbox, are you turning off your monitor too or putting it in a Sleep mode?

Ans: Normally, to avoid the annoyance, I have to manually turn off the monitor. The monitor is supposed to go to sleep mode when inactive (without the need to turn off separately), but it would keep coming back on when the Xbox One S is turned off.



Do you have your Xbox plugged into a surge protector or power strip that is shared with your monitor?

Ans: Yes, everything is connected to a power strip.

Have you tested a night where your Xbox is not plugged into the monitor to see if the issue is re-created but with the Xbox unplugged?

Ans: Last night, I removed the HDMI input to the monitor from Xbox One S. This time, the monitor went to sleep after a while. So, it seems the problem indeed is with the console.

That is a very weird glitch you have did you figure out how to resolve this?

 

Are you able to plug the console directly into a wall socket, and not the power strip?

 

I have 2 wall sockets near my desk and one of them has the power strip while the other has the iPhone charger plugged in. The power strip powers the console and the monitor as well as a Macbook charger. I will try to plug the console to the wall outlet directly
tonight.

However, I must reiterate that when I removed the Xbox One S HDMI input to the monitor, it went to sleep after a while. Also, with this same setup, I never had this issue with my OG Xbox One.

I will report back after switching the console power to the wall outlet tonight.

Thanks for reaching out and providing us with so much detail! We understand it can be frustrating when you are trying to rest and there is a light that keeps turning on again and again. I would say to try the following:

Change the console to
Energy-Saving
Mode:

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide (Don't hold the Xbox Button on the controller)
2. Select System >Settings
3. Select Power & startup
   >Power mode & startup.
4. Select
   Power mode to change the setting to
   Energy-Saving
5. Then restart the console by pressing the
   Xbox Button
   again. Go to System
   and select Restart Console
   (Not Settings).

Try this as well as switching the power cable from the surge protector to the wall outlet.

I changed the power mode to "Energy-Saving" and I don't have this problem anymore. Thank you for the suggestion. Even though I lose the ability to instantly turn on the Xbox and resume gameplay, I prefer it to the annoyance that was there earlier.

No problem and Thanks for letting us know that the issue has been fixed! I am glad it helped so that the screen lighting up won't be a problem. This also helps so that the
console fully shuts down and actually gets a break as well. Sometimes the console wants to rest as well
