Xbox One S reverting to 7.1 from Bitstream/Atmos Constantly

Hoping for some help with this strange issue. My Xbox One S will (seemingly randomly) revert back to 7.1 uncompressed when I set it to Bitstream out and Atmos Bitstream format. It doesn't do it always but I would say every 2 or 3 times I turn it on, I go
to settings and see that Audio is set back to 7.1. I now have to check every time I turn the Xbox on because of this.

Anyone know why this might be happening? I have the Xbox running into a Marantz SR-6011 audio/video receiver with Atmos capability.

    :)

  2. Xbox one s, bitstream passthrough for amplifier decode of ATMOS and DTS:X

    Hi

I just did get my xbox one s, but I cant get xbox to bitstream passthrough for my amplifier to decode ATMOS and DTS:X.

I has been talking to danish xbox support yesterday, and they told me to do a offline update of xbox, but it took to long to download from microsoft max 7-8 MB/s, so support phone was closed when I was finish with offline update.

    But it still doesn't work.

Yes my amplifier can decode ATMOS and DTS:X, also on used HDMI port. Sony PS4 don't have any issues whit that port or cable.

Xbox one s own decode of ATMOS to bitstream gives 5.1 on my amplifier or chosen 7.1, the sound is not impressive, it seams to miss decode some of the sound, if you chouse in film menu 5.1 or 7.1 you will get a better sound and it is way more impressive.

    Best regards

BUG: With Dolby Atmos activated, all apps used Fallback to PCM 2.0

    Greetings:

I recently got the Xbox One S, updated it to latest Firmware and installed the Dolby Access app.

    BluRay in Atmos/DTS:X works fine.

Games work fine (fallback to linear PCM 7.1)

Apps have problems. Mixer, Netflix, even the normal UI all use the wrong fallback if there is no Atmos signal. They use fallback to PCM 2.0 (since Netflix, Mixer and so on don't output sound as 5.1 or 7.1 Linear PCM). If I set the Console to Bitstream Dolby
Digital (instead of Dolby Atmos) then apps correctly stream 5.1 DD Audio as expected.

I'm using Dolby Atmos for Home Theathre via HDMI btw.

I wonder why this hasn't been noticed during Preview testing!

    What should happen:

Dolby Atmos Content -> Dolby Atmos Bitstream

Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital + Content (Apps, UI) -> Dolby Digital (+) Bitstream

Linear PCM Content (Games) -> Linear PCM 7.1 Output (or Dolby Digital if selected)

    What currently happens:

Dolby Atmos Content -> Dolby Atmos Bitstream

Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital + Content (Apps, UI) -> Linear PCM 2.0 Downmix

Linear PCM Content (Games) -> Linear PCM 7.1 Output

I hope I explained the error conclusively and that we will soon see an Update to fix this very annoying issue.

    Thanks.

Btw...is there any information yet, which games will be Updated to actually work with Dolby Atmos? So far there are none...

Audio settings totally screwed up on XB1S

Similar here. Atmos from blurays was working fine till recent xbox update.

What's weird is that this morning I could select bitstream and Atmos in xbox audio settings (if I unplug my headphones which are connected via optical - really MS? That's dismal) and I could get atmos signal out to my receiver successfully from the Dolby
Access app samples. But if I try play an atmos bluray the xbox switched audio settings back to 7.1 PCM.

This afternoon the xbox won't even let me select bitstream, just throws the error code and says check your receiver supports bitstream.

Really hope this is fixed soon :(

Xbox One X defaults to 7.1 Audio

um having the same problem with One X and Sony HT ST 5000.

Everytime i switch from apps to games it automatically goes to either 7.1 or Bitstream DTS, got the Atmos app and done everything right but still they dont fix it...

Sound Bar LG SJ9 Atmos Soundbar

I have the same problem - I have my Xbox one S connected to my ATMOS enabled LG 2017 TV and then to the Atmos enabled SJ9 via ARC and neither sound output is recognised as supporting Atmos by the Xbox when I try to enable it as the bitstream out format.
A direct connection of the xbox to the SJ9 via the HDMI in connection also fails. Bitstream out with Dolby digital works fine.

Atmos works fine from other sources.

    Thanks.

Can't use Dolby Atmos for Home Theater with headset base station connected (Elite 800X and Astro A50)

    Hi bladerunnin,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox Forums.

The reason you need to unplug the base station if you want to use Dolby Atmos for Home Theater is in the way the Dolby Atmos sound format is processed within the Xbox and Dolby Digital 7.1 in the A50's and DTS 7.1 in the TB 800X respectively.

The Dolby Atmos sound format for Home Theater on any platform is processed in the device itself through HDMI, in this case the Xbox's operating system and software. The Xbox will decode the audio in a bitstream format through HDMI for Dolby Atmos HT. The
headset base stations (not the Xbox) process and decode the audio formats and then send the data to the Xbox in bitstream through optical. Since everything is processed through the base stations for the headsets, simply turning off the headset won't remove
the base station as a device that is hooked up and recognized by the console, at least while the audio settings in the Xbox are still set for Optical audio: Bitstream out. That may be why you are getting the message that Dolby Atmos is only supported over
    HDMI.

Under Speaker audio in the Audio output settings of the Xbox, try turning off Optical audio while leaving HDMI audio on Bitstream out, then under Bitstream format select Dolby Atmos for HT. When wanting to use the headsets, turn off HDMI audio and then put
Optical audio on Bitstream out, then under the format choose Dolby Digital (Astro A50) or DTS Surround (TB Elite 800X). If you have tried that but still can't enable Dolby Atmos while you have everything plugged in, then just disconnect the optical cable but
leave the USB plugged in, which is what charges the headset, not the optical cable.

NO SOUND USING DOLBY ATMOS SOUNDBAR

If you're using an Xbox One or One S (not sure on the One X) the only Dolby Atmos support is the Headset out jack on the Xbox controller.

The HDMI audio out options on the Xbox are located here -

    - Settings > Display and Sound > Audio Output > (options) Off - Stereo uncompressed - 5.1 uncompressed - 7.1 uncompressed - Bitstream

You'll probably have to stick with Stereo uncompressed as the audio setting on the Xbox.

Based on page 14 of the manual of that sound bar, it only supports 2 channel input and it simulates 5.1 out

Yes I follow all the steps , actually netflix recognize dolby atmos content but any sound is produced by the soundbar

I'm not sure what you mean by "Yes I follow all the steps".

Have you got audio out from the Xbox and into your sound bar now?

No Xbox recognize my dolby atmos soundbar because i can setup in the audio settings uncompress audio bitstream and also I’m able to select home theater dolby atmos and then I’m able to open netflix and for example select the tv show content punisher and
The opción to select dolby atmos audio is able but nothing happens still no audio
The Xbox One or One S will not recognize the Dolby Atmos. That feature is for the Headset option on the controller only.

You state - "netflix recognize dolby atmos".

    - Are you using the Netflix app built in to your TV?

Try this, run your HDMI OUT from the Xbox into the TV. And on the Xbox choose Stereo Uncompressed. See if the audio from the Xbox is working into the TV. I'm assuming you're running Out from the TV into your sound bar. After you have that done and the basic
stereo sound is working then change the other audio settings one at a time on the Xbox to 5.1 and 7.1 and then Bitstream and see what the TV passes through to your sound bar.
