Xbox one S random crashes

My xbox one s has a mind of it's own.

It randomly shuts itself off without an error message. This can occur while playing, watching youtube or just sitting in the menu.

The second issue is that during gameplay the game will display a message stating i disconnected from the internet and closes the game. Meanwhile my console doesn't log me out of my profile, I can still see my online friends and all other xbox menu's such
as the store work fine as if I'm still connected. I had this happen while I was in a party and the party did not disconnect at all.

Using a cable doesn't let me play multiplayer games. The same cable works fine on a laptop, or other gaming consoles other than my xbox one S

Being wireless makes my NAT type permenantly open and gets me signal strength at 100% without any packet losses. This should allow my console to smoothly run multiplayer games, but this couldn't be further from the truth.

Every single day my xbox has this problem. This can happen once a day or 50 times, it's very sporadic.

I have tried everything from the official xbox troubleshooting guides to no succes.

I have contacted the router's manufacturer and my ISP to tweak settings on their end and still no succes.

No other devices on my network suffer any problems, except for my xbox one S.

Does my xbox have a hardware issue or could it be malware?

One last note. I remember 1 year ago I got massive hate while playing call of duty. While in the lobby a random person messaged me, threatening to kick me offline and I did indeed get kicked offline. This was the first time ever my console disconnected.

How is this possible?

it took sometime but it crashed without the external. ive already done a factory reset. i even cleared all my games and reinstalled. formatted external also. it just crashes so randomly

my xbox started randomly restarting itself about two months ago. at first it only happened once then no issues for aweek or two. it started getting worse and now itll go on for maybe minute or maybe an hour. i reset my xbox. i swicthed from wifi to wired.
ive cleaned the fan for dust. i hard restarted it. hell i had the *** thing unplugged for a week and it still does it. it happens sometimes on start up, sometimes ingame, and sometimes streaming netflix or hulu. any ideas? warrenty is up so thats a no go and
i cant afford the 115 replacement for couple of weeks. id really just like to fix it myself. help PS its a halo master chief xbox 500 gb with 4 tb WD external. dont know if that helps just tryin to be sure

 

It sounds like you may have some corrupted data, and it might help to do some data clean-up.

First, make sure your console is plugged directly into the wall outlet at your home. Don't use power strips, surge protectors or extension cords. These things can sometimes degrade the quality of power getting to the console, causing problems.

Next, power-cycle it. Press and hold the power button on the face of the console for several seconds, holding it down until the console shuts off. After 15-20 seconds, restart it. This might clear out some bad data that hasn't been deleted previously, but if
you have done this before, it's time to get a bit more drastic.

You can run a factory reset, which will check for and fix corrupted system updates. Go to Settings -> System -> Console Info -> Reset console. Be sure to choose "Keep my games & apps" when prompted, so you don't have to reinstall everything.

If you have done each of those things and it's still misbehaving, you may indeed have a hardware problem. You can reach out to
Microsoft Support and start a repair ticket online.

 

I have tried everything you mentioned, multiple times. No matter what I try my xbox will not cooperate.

 

Some have this problem with the youtube app that seems to cause crashing and some may have this from a bug in an insiders preview build.

Otherwise, the only causes of this would be a game/app crash, overheating or a failing power supply.

If it's the youtube app, how would it cause any and all my games to randomly crash or get disconnected from the internet?

I don't have the insiders build on my xbox

 

If the youtube app is on the in background it can cause crashes from what I've seen. Push START (3 lines button) on the tile for youtube and go to "quit" to make sure it's off and see if the problem continues.

 

Oh I understand what you mean. However I never let 2 apps open at the same time. When i open a game i close apps that were open previously through the start menu.

My connection crashes either way even if I haven't opened the youtube app that session.

 

Have you considered or tried doing a full factory reset, wiping everything on it? If you're hesitant to do that,
Xbox Live Support may have some final options to try before taking that last resort step (and they may ask you to do one before authorizing a warranty repair).

 

I am resetting it now and will let you know afterwards if the crashes still occur. It's gonna take a while tho before I'll have a game installed on it.

What data could become corrupt and how does it become corrupt to the point it affects my internet connectivity?

I wish to know the ins and outs so I can avoid it from happening again.

 

Here's the thing ... computers (and devices that are essentially computers) are funny things. What may cause a problem on one machine won't cause it on another. Unfortunately, things happen and they just need to be rebooted/reset. To reduce the likelihood
of such things, however:

- Your console is powered directly from the wall outlet (no power strips, etc.)

- Your power supply is stable (it's not cutting off when the console is saving or updating)

- Your internet connection is stable (Wi-Fi is good, but Ethernet/wired is best)

- Console is fully updated (Settings -> System -> Updates)

- You're in a
supported country

Even if all this is correct, things may still happen, however. There is no guaranteed shield that will prevent bad things from happening.

 

I factory reset it and while installing the game the internet connection suddenly vanished while being wired. It worked fine for about 20 minutes.

 

If you go to Settings > Network > test network connection does it say "hardware problem"?

Also, can you turn off the console and unplug for 30 seconds and see if the internet connection is back? That usually fixes this problem for at least wifi.

 

There was some message about the IP adress.

I unplugged the network cable and connected to the wifi.

At this point my xbox had it's connection to the internet back, however i plugged my network cable back in and my wired connection is fine again. Without turning off my console. 180mbs up/10 mbs down 22ms 0% packet loss

I did notice that moving through the xbox menu's is more smooth now.

I never got my wired connection to work before, once I got my game fully downloaded I will do some testing for the connection crashes with both wired and wireless connection.

To Randy, I have alot of experience troubleshooting devices for friends and family.

The biggest reasons for device failures are downloading corrupt data (e.g. a virus getting into system files), getting your device dirty (e.g. dust or corrosion on the circuit board) or turning it off during a system update.

I assume these must be true for the xbox aswell, however are there more possibilities for the xbox to misbehave?
