    Hello to the Microsoft Community!

    I have an issue with this Xbox One S I had fixed up for my nephew

    It had a broken HDMI port, I sent it to a repair service and had it fixed. It was sent back to me and I put it back together and it was working great. I reset it and put some games on.

    It worked for several hours while the games were being installed. But after I moved it to its new and permanent location, it died after 2 hours. It turned itself off. I tried to turn it back on and then it turned itself off immediately again. I reset the power
    supply by unplugging it for 10 seconds several times but nothing. I kept trying to turn it on, the lights would come on then go off. it would make the power up and down sound. Then finally it stopped giving me anything at all. No sounds, No light. Nothing.
    The only thing that would happen is that the fans would spin when it was first plugged in.

    I knew this could be a power supply issue so I took it apart and started testing the components. I tested the power supply and all the voltages were fine. I tested the plug on the board to make sure there was no shorting across the pins, and there wasn't.


    What other components can I test? I assume it might be the front board with the buttons on it from what limited stuff I was able to find online. It was just very odd that at first, it was giving me some signs of life, then nothing at all.

    Hi Kris,

    It wasn't plugged into the wall initially, but I've tried it a couple times plugged right into the outlet but I get the same issue. None of the vents are dusty either. The fan spins when I turn it on for a bit, but then stops spinning. I don't have another power cable, I'd assume it's getting power because of the light and the fan though.

    this unfortunately does not help my issue, as i think it might be something going on with my fan or the build that messed with my PWM port for my fan. my fan no longer spins as much. i got it to run the fan for 2-3 minutes and then the fan quits. i know
    the fan is good if it does spin. i am hoping that it isnt the fan as i am currently looking at aftermarket fans (i might consider on the be quiet! silentwings 3 PWM fan to install into my xbox one s as a replacement) to see if that fixes anything, and i am
    thinking of getting an aftermarket stand with fans as well that way i dont wind up with any issues. im just hoping someone can at least help figure out what is going on entirely and if the Insider Alpha has damaged my fan controller that the xbox throttles,
    or if the fan has officially failed after 3 or 4 years of owning it

    Is it possible your console in on instant on mode? That could be the reason why the fan is still on. If you turn the power to power saving mode, that will turn the console off without the fan spinning.
    How did i not think of this. Still odd that the fan is always spinning though, hopefully the bearings will last.

    I think you are right, I'm pretty sure instant on is active, and I'm guessing then that it's a capacitor making the noise.

    Is it possible your console in on instant on mode? That could be the reason why the fan is still on. If you turn the power to power saving mode, that will turn the console off without the fan spinning.

    Define "very hot". The exhaust temperature on an original 360 is around 95F. On a 360 S, it's 135F.



    Is it an original 360, or the new 360 S design?



    If it's an original, are both fans spinning in the back? If it's a 360 S, is the fan spinning?



    Does the console shut down due to overheating?
