    I recently bought a Xbox One S, especially for playing 4K movies. But when I put in a 4K Ultra HD disc, the Xbox is making a very annoying zooming sound, like an old-fashioned cd writer doing its best. I can hear it clear when I watch a movie, it is especially
    irritating with the quieter scenes. The strange thing is, that when I play a game or watch a normal Blu-Ray or DVD, I don't hear anything unusual, it's only with 4K ultra HD discs. Is this normal or do I have a defect Xbox? Does anyone else have this?

    Xbox One S 4K upscaling for DVDs and standard Blu-rays

    I would like to purchase a 4K Blu-ray Player for my new 4K TV, and the Xbox One S seems like a good choice since it can be used for gaming and other entertainment as well. However, I would also like to play non-4K discs (480p, 720p, 1080p) on the Xbox One
    S using a 4K TV.

    So, my question is:

    Does the Blu-ray App on Xbox One S upscale SD (480p DVDs) and HD (720p & 1080p standard Blu-rays) discs to 4K?

    Hi

    The Xbox One can't play 4K Blu ray discs at a hardware level and a firmware update will not be able to add this feature to the console. You will need to purchase an Xbox One S to be able to play 4K discs.

    I believe that the Xbox One S can only do 4K through media, such as 4K blu-ray disc's / Netflix and so on,

    If trying to play games at 4K, you need the Xbox One X.

    I understood that Ghostbusters reference! (At least I hope you're referring to Ghostbusters here).

    As the others already explained: S stands for "Slim", as the S model was "slimmer" than the original Xbox One.

    And the "Xbox One S all digital edition" is able to play streaming
    4K content. 4k doesn't necessarily require a 4K BluRay disc.

    Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (and probably other streaming services) already feature streaming 4K content the One S and One S All Digital Edition (and the One X) can play.

    If you want to see a 4K Movies (streaming/disc) you will need to have a 4K TV. (With Xbox One S and X)

    Also if you want to play a game on 4K the game need to be 4K compatible and a 4K TV (only with Xbox One X)

    Total system crash on Xbox One S while running a UHD 4K BluRay & no ATMOS or DTS X.

    Dead pool UHD 4k disc does not play on the xbox one s. Goes back to home screen.
