XBOX One S outside of warranty. E102 code told by gaming support i need a repair *Complaint*

OK, so I'm losing the will to live. My ten-year-olds Xbox one s decided to turn itself off mid-game Saturday afternoon, restarted with a green screen of death. I followed the troubleshooting advice spent most of Saturday afternoon resetting, applying OSU
update etc with the console not playing ball. Turned console back on Sunday to see that the update screen was still there and it actually pushed through the 3rd part of the update "applying update" success, Logged kid back on redownloaded his games.. happy
lad = Happy Dad.

Monday afternoon, console turned off mid-game, we restarted after a power cycle, slight pause on Green screen.. but the home screen booted up.

Yesterday evening, once again turned off while watching Twitch. Couldn't get it back on.

I tried this morning.. green screen of death. I phoned MS UK number explained everything found out machine is 5 months out of warranty and they want £114 for a repair. I refused, hoping that they'd apply some common sense and arrange for free. No dice then
he hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor. Called back, spoke to the manager again who refused to budge on the stance. when I asked how I could take it higher he gave me a reference number and an email address. I sent the email to "*** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***"
to find out it doesn't exist. Called back the same number to be told I have to put my complaint on here!!!! I explained that doesn't make sense. Then he gave me an email address of "*** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***" and guess what, that doesn't work either!

Anyone any luck with the free repair outside of warranty? If so how and who did you speak to?

FYI - support online walked me through troubleshooting and confirmed when I got the E102 error that it needs repairing as it's a hardware issue, either HDD or video card.

Xbox controllers have a 90day warranty, during that warranty you can get a free repair or replacement by scheduling a repair with Xbox Support. Outside of the warranty period you'll need to pay for the repair and shipping which is almost equivalent to the
price of a new controller so if it really bothers you I advice you to purchase a new one

Ive never seen people who will fix any console for free. Especially for that kind of error.

 

So you don't think that MS has a responsibility to ensure their consoles live for a little longer than 17 months?

Sure if we had spilt fluids into it, or damaged it ourselves fair enough. But a known hardware issue?

 

Hi, this is a sticky area.

Maybe pay a visit to your local citizens rights centre for clarification on this.

Perhaps read through this too, it never hurts to know your rights, no matter how sketchy they may or may not be.

Reading on through the rest of the warranty info the wording gets a little iffy, is it an unfair contract I don't know as I'm no legal expert but I have known people who got an out of warranty repair before
at no cost, so who knows.

You'd just like to think that occasionally. MS could deal with things from a human perspective rather than their clone workers relying on a script that's in front of them.

It's likely I'll check out a local repair shop and see what their cost is. Likely it'll be cheaper than £114

 

For what it's worth I'd steer clear of having the Xbox repaired by anyone other than Microsoft, that can lead to issues such as console bans for system tampering maybe, plus should the Xbox fail again at any point you'd not be able to get Microsoft to touch
it with the proverbial barge pole if it's been repaired by someone else.

Of course that's just my opinion and in no way reflects the views of others in any way shape or form.

 

How many hours a day was it on for 17 months?

I have had mine about the same length of time.

It would be smarter to just buy a new one if they want that much....

 

You wont get a free repair out of warranty you will need to pay the repair fee
