    Xbox One S optical audio is stereo only

    So I have an Xbox One S.

    Hardware Setup:

    • Video: HDMI -> TV
    • Audio: Optical SPDIF -> Surround Decoder

    Settings on console:

    • In Settings->Display & Sound->Audio output:
    • Speaker audio -> HDMI is set to "Off"
    • Speaker audio -> "Optical audio" is set to "Bitstream out"
    • Speaker audio -> "Bitstream format" is set to "DTS Digital Surround"

    I am only getting stereo out through my surround sound decoder. If I change settings to use "Dolby Digital" the symbol on my surround sound decoder changes from "DTS" to the standard "DD".

    I have tested this with Netflix, a Blu-ray movie, and a video file that plays sound through each 5.1 channel in order. Nothing produces anything other than stereo output. The surround decoder unit is also connected to another device via optical (on a separate
    optical input), that device is producing surround sound output properly. I have also tried switching inputs on the surround unit with the input being used by the other device - there is still nothing but stereo.

    This problem does not seem to be my surround decoder unit, but rather the audio stream being output by the Xbox One S itself.

    Is there a solution to this problem?

    :)

    5.1 Optical Audio Output broken

    In games like Forza Horizon, I get 5.1 audio just fine. But in all other instances of audio output, I only get stereo? BlueRay is only stereo, apps like Grove and Spotify are only stereo. YouTube Dolby 5.1 Test is only stereo. I use an Optical cable to plug
    the output of the Xbox One to my Samsung Home Cinema 5.1 system. I have enable Optical Digital Surround in Xbox One Settings.

    At this point, I am clueless as to what to try out next Xbox One S optical audio is stereo only :(

    Headset/chat question that needs answering

    I have a Tritton AX 720 headset that I use for my Xbox One (plugged into the rear optical audio port). However, to receive chat audio that will allow me to talk too, it needs to be plugged into the controller via a cable.

    My question is: if I get the Xbox One stereo headset adapter and connect the headset to it, will I still be able to get game audio via the optical cable? Or will it be forced into stereo mode because it's plugged into the adapter?

    Thanks in advance.

    Xbox one, PC monitor without speakers?

    well i found the answer our myself, but ill share it here for anyone else that needs the same info.

    The xbox one comes only with a Audio Optical port, so you need an optical cable, but if your stereo doesnt have the optical port, then you need a optical to RCA converter, to go audio optical >converter> red/white >>>to stereo inputs.

    hope that makes sense.

    Will The Turtle Beach X32 Be Compatible with the new Xbox One Headset Adapter?

    If you do not have the RCA out, the only way this would work is if the Headset uses the Optical Out of the ONE

    To get in to details Turtle Beach Says: Please note that you will need to connect this headset to the stereo outputs from your TV or audio receiver for game audio and use the Kinect® for game chat with Xbox One.

    www.turtlebeach.com/.../58

    Microsoft Says:

    The following 3.5-mm audio headset types are supported:

    A single 3.5-mm audio cable headset.

    A dual 3.5-mm audio cable headset with 3.5-mm CTIA audio cables.

    A headset with chat audio provided by a 3.5-mm audio cable and game audio provided by a separate cable with RCA or optical connectors. (Only chat audio will be enabled through the Stereo Headset Adapter. For RCA/optical connectors [game audio], follow the
    manufacturer’s instructions to connect to the console.)

    An Xbox 360 Wired Headset with a 2.5-mm audio cable. Connect to the Stereo Headset Adapter by using the 2.5-mm-to-3.5mm adapter that’s included with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.
