Bitstream Audio DTS / DD cannot get center channel to play audio with HDMI passthrough

Surround sound is disabled by default for the HDMI input. You need to go to Settings, TV & OneGuide, Troubleshooting, Audio to enable the surround sound beta.

Is your setup Xbox to receiver via HDMI? Or is the sound going through your TV first?

  3. Still only getting stereo even with straight HDMI.

This should answer you from Xbox One support website :

Digital surround with TV on Xbox One

Support for digital surround sound from your cable or satellite box is currently available as a beta. By default, only stereo sound will be received.

Follow these steps to enable digital surround sound:

1.From Home, say “Xbox, go to Settings” or select the Settings tile from My games & apps.

    2.Select TV & OneGuide.

    3.Select Troubleshooting.

4.Select the Surround Sound (BETA) option.

Note Your Xbox One can produce digital surround sound for games and Blu-ray or DVD movies. Only the digital audio pass-through from your cable or satellite box is in beta.

    Hi cnnn423,

Are you seeing any error when trying to use the HDMI in as a pass through to your audio system? If you do, can you let us know the error message you are seeing?

    Thank you!

No surround sound using TV App...

Did you try turning on Surround sound (BETA)? It is found in the troubleshooting section of TV & OneGuide settings.

XBOX ONE audio question (Center Speaker)

I had to do a reset of the factory defaults for the Xbox One and when I finished the setup I noticed that my center channel wasn't working and I looked at the Settings>Display & Sound and it looked like the Surround Sound was set up properly with Optical
audio>Bitstream Out, Bitstream format>DTS Digital Surround. From this thread I read that I might need to go into the Settings>TV & OneGuide to fix the issue under troubleshooting. However, that didn't seem to be an option, so I looked under TV & OneGuide>Audio
& video and low and behold under AUDIO you can choose between Stereo and Surround sound. After I selected Surround sound and restarting the Xbox One the center channel was working and all was good in the world. I hope this helps someone!
