Xbox one S not updating

Hi. I have been trying to set up my son's xbox one S since yesterday. It's saying it needs to update but starts to update then stops the most it has got to is 36% then it says there was a problem with the update. I have put in the error code but can't find
the problem.

Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do?

Can’t connect headset with controller

new x box one s controllers will not recognise headset ,yet older black one will ,tried updating etc nothing works

We are having the exact same problem! It updates to a certain amount then fails. We even returned the console to the shop we purchased it at and replaced it, tried to set up the new one and have the exact same problem! We contacted the support techs yesterday
via chat and even they couldn't help! They offered to replace it for us but we chose to take it back to the shops and replace it.

Alright, let's see what we can do to help.

First, is there an error code anywhere on the screen when the update fails? Could you please post the error code listed?

Secondly, is the Xbox connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet Cable?

If it's connected via Wi-Fi, have you tried to use a cable to see if that resolves the issue?

Third, a common fix when the system is acting strange is to do a Power Cycle on the system. The way you do this is to press the Xbox button on the console itself (make sure it's already turned on) and keep it pressed for about 8-10 seconds. At this time
the system should have shut down. Now, wait around 30 seconds and then try to start it again normally. This will have flushed the cache and set it up for a "cold" boot state, which usually resolves any issue you may encounter.

We have some alternatives to try, but i will await your answers before proceeding.

And if you get it working, please post what you did to make it work so others can read too.

To take advantage of 120Hz, you'll need an Xbox One X or Xbox
One S running the Xbox May 2018 Update. So as far as the original Xbox One it sadly is not a possibility.

What game or games does this message pop for? Many Xbox One games have updates specifically for the Xbox X. If your Xbox One game has a 4K assets update for example, you'll be prompted to download this when using the drive on the Xbox One X console.

The Xbox One S and original Xbox One don't support X-enhancements, so you won't be prompted for that update when using the drive on the One S.
