    Xbox One S not playing 4K Blu Ray - Planet Earth 2


    Hi guys, I see this popping up a lot in different threads and in one a staff member said to create a new post and they will PM.

    I have the issue with David Attenborough's Planet Earth 2 box set, all discs don't work. The blu ray app either hangs or it comes up with can't read disc error.

    Setup is Xbox -> Sony STR-DN1070 AVR -> LG B6P OLED TV. All 4k settings are on and 4K works perfectly with Netflix and other games consoles, so it's not the TV or AVR. I have one other UHD Blu Ray which is Warcraft, and that does work.

    No, uninstalling and reinstalling the app does not work. Again, has anyone else reported this issue? The main (and probably only) reason I wanted to get an XBox One S was for the 4K blu-ray capability - especially for Planet Earth 2. So far it has failed

    Xbox One S will play 4K Blu Ray's

    Xbox One X will play Game in 4K if they are Enhanced with 4K Support + 4k Blu Ray support

    They Xbox One X will also Upscale on a 1080p screen so you will see some benefit of the Xbox One X

    Snoopy, look around on just this page alone. The XBOX One S is having a lot of problems playing Blu Ray (especially 4k titles). The Blu Ray app appears to be pretty much garbage (rated 2/5 stars).

    "Ultra HD" Blu-Rays will play in 4K. Standard Blu-Rays will play in 1080p.

    The Xbox One S will only output to the highest resolution offered by the Blu-Ray disc it plays.

    I suppose this design choice was in mind because 4K/UHD-TVs already process and upscale a lower resolution image to "cleanly" use all of the 3840x2160 pixels, so it's not putting unnecessary load on the Xbox One S CPU.
