Xbox One S - never doing Xbox again...

Had high hopes for this as a Christmas present this year. Our daughter (9) and her friends have many dance parties and Kinect sport contests... This looked like a good time to upgrade from the old Xbox 360 system we were using with the different dance
games and Kinect Sports... Surprise! I can accept compatibility issues and buying new stuff for new systems, but this might have been a deceptive money grab by Microsoft to the point where my positive feeling about previous Xbox systems and games is shot
and I'm done...

Nice sale on a new Xbox One S for Black Friday - made sure it wasn't marked for instant discontinuation and it looked like the Xbox One S and Xbox One X were both going to be around for a while... No obvious gotcha's on the Best Buy listing so though I
expected a few entertaining things I was expecting to get to where I needed to be without too big a headache. Already had the Xbox One version of dance central and sports on the way.

Then it became clear the Xbox 360 Kinect wasn't going to work so I rushed and bout the Xbox One Kinect prior to a 9 year old post-Christmas party. Cool - got the Kinect in time to find the "requires adapter" note that wasn't clear on the Amazon listing
or the Xbox One S listing from the original purchase.

No biggie - buy the stupid adapter... Oh - its now discontinued and only available on eBay for >$200.

This entire chain happened within a 2 week period and the Xbox One S appears to be mostly orphaned already by Microsoft after talking to Microsoft support all day.

I have a nice setup that's basically $500 of paperweight. Games can't be returned because the seal's were broken. Best Buy return policy was 15 days (for a Christmas present purchased on Black Friday its effectively a no return policy).

Awesome. Much bigger deceptive money grab than I've seen in years....basically a "buy this great new affordable system" followed by "oh yeah - it won't do any of the stuff you expected and we aren't really supporting it anymore".

Thanks Microsoft. I remember laughing at people who bought Zune's....now I guess I'm one of the group burned by MS. Lesson learned (finally).

Shame because there are a few things that would be nice - FIFA soccer with the women's team, always enjoyed the COD shooters in the past and I played the new one a little and the multiplayer maps were pretty good... Those two things aren't worth the big
investment and sensation that I just got snowed though... Could have put that money to use on something useful for the family that was a significantly better return on investment...

My new xbox one S just got it today and i am doing the first ever update on console, but during the update xbox turns off and never restarts again, when I do it manually the update goes back to 0%, anyone could help me ?

It was announced in October last year that Microsoft was discontinuing the Kinect.

It is kind of lame. I was hoping I could still use it on the X but I can’t. I want to sell it but I won’t get more tha €5 for it.

 

I bought a Kinect for my 360, but never used it, not even once, lol

 

And this basically teaches people to research a product before you buy it.

As Paraffin said, it was fairly widely known that Microsoft was discontinuing the Kinect back in October.

Its not Microsofts fault that you bought a product expecting it to do something, only to find out that it doesn't.

I know that people love to bash Microsoft for pretty much everything, but in this case its not their fault.

 

You can not plug kinect without that? Is it the same for the X? It's a joke ?

 

I use it with the new Xbox one X and have no problems at all except for finding a way to place it for use with the wall climbing sport that needs to see my hands when raised and my feet at the same time.

 

They removed the dedicated Kinect port from the One S and One X. A standard USB port does not provide enough power to power it, so the adapter is required, which comes with its own power supply.

MS were very anti-consumer with the way they handled this. Initially the product page for the One X said that it would work with all Xbox One peripherals and accessories, with no small print talking about adapters. Then, after that was pointed out, MS added
some small print saying a Kinect adapter is required, which is still on the product page now, but they don't mention that they stopped making the adapter ages ago and only just got around to telling people that.

I bought an adapter weeks before the One X came out, cos I knew I would need it, but then just a few days after the One X was released, the Kinect adapters were sold out at RRP everywhere in the UK and were only available from third party sellers who'd jacked
the price up. MS took WEEKS to clarify that the adapter was discontinued and now the third parties have jacked the price up even more. It was blatantly obvious that when releasing the One X, there would be a spike in demand for the Kinect adapters, yet they
clearly don't care about the consumers that have been shafted by this. They want rid of Kinect and if you couldn't get an adapter, it's tough luck as far as they're concerned.

 

Actually, when they started adverts for the X, at no point did it say "btw,, we aren't supplying a kinect or kinect connection." Just like when you buy a new car, you expect it to have a radio.

But it was clearly shown in the advertising that the X did not come with a Kinect.

When the Xbox One was first launched, it came bundled with a Kinect, but MS had so many complaints from gamers about having to pay for a Kinect that they didn`t want, the Kinect was removed and sold separately.

And since developers virtually ignored the Kinect and the market for the few already Kinect enabled games was so small, it made no financial sense at all for MS to continue production of and support of the Kinect device.

Manufacturers do it all the time with numerous products, it`s not just an MS thing. And they do it without even informing the public, at least MS had the decency to put out a press release on it.

 

I’m sure I’d have no problems at all either if I was able to find an adapter cheaper than €200.
