Xbox one S, Netflix dims screen when HDR is enabled

It's worrying this was reported 8 months ago by OP and we're still getting the problem.

Has anyone managed to find a workaround?

    How can this be escalated?

  2. Having the exact same issue. The X1 is supposed to be an all in one media center but this bug killed my desire to stream anything on it. I'm even hesitant to buy any blue rays. HDR kicks in right when you launch Netflix and HuLu and destroys the picture
quality. My 1080p fire stick with HDR+ on looks 100 times better.

Xbox one S, Netflix dims screen when HDR is enabled

This is concerning because I find my Xbox One S to be a better option than my PlayStation 4 or Smart TV. I do not like how the image looks with HDR enabled on non-HDR content as it's washed out and blurry. As it stands, I have to use my PS4 Pro for Netflix
and Xbox One S for Amazon Video and Hulu. This is in no way an intended feature because if it was it would happen on every device. A company as big as Netflix has to be aware that HDR on standard content will have a negative effect and for this issue to go
on for so long is unacceptable.

Why is this issue being ignored? I should not have to disable HDR every time I wish to use Netflix. I’m about to downgrade my Netflix plan to not include UltraHD and see if that stops it from triggering HDR but I am not sure if that will be successful. The
loss of color and blurring is unacceptable and the silence both Microsoft and Netflix show towards this is concerning. I don’t want to buy a Roku player or a PS4 media remote so canceling Netflix may be my only option if a fix isn’t implemented within the
    next month or two.

I’m still hoping for a fix but I caved in and purchased a Roku Ultra. The HDR issue does not exist on Roku so it’s not “by design” as claimed by at least one Netflix representative. I have no regrets though because I am no longer bothered by friends wondering
why I’m ignoring them, haha. But seriously, fix this nonsense.

This problem is never gonna get fixed. It's not just Netflix, it also happens all the time with 4K movies and now its happening with HDR games like Forza Horizon 3. The screen is so dim that I dont even want to waste my time with HDR content anymore, thanks
a lot Microsh*t! On my samsung TV the second I start watching/playing any HDR content, it automatically overrides my TV's settings and makes it so that the backlight is maxed out (even though the picture acualy goes much darker) and a bunch of other settings
are inaccessible. This is so stupid, god luck selling the new xbox one x at this rate!

HDR looks amazing on my Sony display. You need to adjust in game settings I guess. But the Netflix issue were concerned about is that even non HDR programming is activating it which blurs and causes the colors to become washed out. Your game issue is that
the TV or game isn’t setup properly.

Thanks for chiming in. The more this is mentioned the better but as of now it seems they’re ignoring it. I shouldn’t have had to buy a Roku to watch Netflix but I did. I’d love to give it to my parents and go back to Xbox but so far no go. I opened a support
ticket with Xbox regarding it but I don’t want to get my hopes up because it’ll likely be ignored.

I just upgraded to 1080p netflix and got the same problem but I fixed it.

I use the xbox one s.

After reading the comments I decided to mess around with the settings for xbox, the very first option I tried worked.

    Go to:

    Settings

    All settings

    Ease of Access

    High contrast turned "ON"

now netflix doesn't dim but the dash board looks terrible, but if it bothers you just turn High contrast back off.

But it does dim because it’s still activating HDR. I haven’t tested it long enough but it only appears to change the dashboard so you can read it better. Nothing else changes, not even the game and app tile colors.

The only solutions at the moment include:

    1. Disable HDR each time you want to use Netflix and re-enable afterwards.

    2. Disable HDR completely and go without it for all games and applications.

    3. Deal with the issue or cancel Netflix.

    4. Purchase another device such as a Roku Premier+ or Ultra, Apple TV 4K, Amazon Fire Stick or any other streaming device. Just avoid the PS4 Pro because it also suffers from this issue due to Netflix inability to program an app
    for the consoles.

I own a KS8500. When the App, or Game is loaded, I turn the HDMI UHD Color Off (by going into Settings>Picture>Expert Settings) until the Signal returns, then switch it back On for the HDMI Input I’m using. I don’t know if this is a true fix, but you would
have to do this every time you load HDR content. I’m hoping this helps.

    Xbox One S HDR Bug

I am having a similar issue on my Xbox One S connected directly to my Samsung JS8500 tv. When I open the netflix app the screen becomes very dim and the screen doesn't return to normal until the app is quit. HDR content looks great using the Netflix app
on my TV by the way, not dim at all.

When I finally reached someone at Netflix support who had heard of HDR, I was told (after a lengthy hold) that HDR-always-on is the way the app is supposed to behave. What a joke. Please sign this Change.org petition:

same exact issue, i have the Samsung KS8500. anything that supports HDR is automatically detected and dims the picture, but it works perfectly fine if i use the built in Netflix app on my tv. I chatted with a Microsoft employee to see if this was an issue
they are aware of and he assured me that they are aware of it. Though, that was quite a while ago...

Same issue here. Microsoft can you please recognize and FIX this issue. I have an LG B6 and I'm almost better off using their built in Netflix App. This is unfortunate as I was hoping the Xbox One S would be my central device.
