Xbox One S mic not working

I brought an xbox one s for my son to play fortnite with his school friends as he currently can't see them and am having problems with his mic. The xbox detects the headset, can hear everyone else but mic isn't working. I'm unable to alter the volume setting
or check this as it is greyed out. I have tried everything going, rec sync'ing and resetting, updating firmware and even brought an adapter, taken of all parental settings and restrictions. It did originally work for 1 day then decided it wasnt going to. I've
spent days googling and reading forums to try different things and still nothing. I dont get it as it did work and now doesn't. I'm really disappointed and my son is even more disappointed. If I cant get this to work I'm sending the bloody thing back. Not
even had it for week. Any help and/or suggestions at this point will be greatly received (before my son totally loses the plot)

First and the most common question just to be sure, is it muted? Otherwise you could try assigning the headset to your sons profile. This has happened to me where I can hear but my mic is "off" because it isn't assigned to me. To do this open up the Accessories
App and you will see the headset, click assign headset to profile, select the account you want and you should be good to go.

Let me know if this worked for you or if you have any problems following my steps.

3 years later still a problem. I am having the same problem. I got my Xbox One S a couple days ago and the mic doesn't work. I can hear everything, but no one can hear me. Everyone in game chat can see my mic symbol. I have tried using apple headphones for
a mic doesn't work. Bought adapter for my Xbox 360 turtle beaches doesn't work. I have tired a a lot of things but nothing works...

all i can say is make sure you update them before using them also if you want the best then go with ASTRO i use ASTRO A40's got them in 2011 and work fine im getting the new GEN 2 astro a40's next week they say they work for ps4 but they work fine with xbox
one you just need a mic cable and chat adaptor the mic cable is £6you can also get wireless astros which are the a50's also if you dont care for 5.1 or 7.1 then the astro a40's built for xbox one and the mix amp is on the controller they are £170 and stereo

No. The Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S consoles do not support those type of mics.

I have had 3 mics and none will work. My friends in the party can just hear static. Ive tried everything, even factory reset the console. Nothing seems to be working. It recognises that there is a mic as the warning symbol disappears but no sound.

Question; are the models conoatible with XBOX? You cannot use a PS headet on XBOX FYI.
