Xbox One S making weird noises when it's shut off

I noticed today that my barely used Xbox One S makes a buzzing, electrical noise when it is completely shut off. It is not very loud, but if you get close to the console, there is no denying it. I own
quite a few consoles and have never noticed one ever behaving like this. Because of this I am a bit worried.

I've googled the issue and this seems to be a problem - or to have less negative connotations: stituation - that has been discussed quite a bit over the last few years. Usually in those threads there is
someone who says that the console needs to activate the power saving mode, but often the sounds coming from the console persist anyway. For me, this is the case as well. I have also tried the Full Shutdown option, still the sound never fully stops.

Ultimately, I think I'd be able to disregard these sounds, but for that to happen I would have to know that this is just normal - for whatever reason. Maybe someone has insight into this. In the threads
I've encountered, there seems to be two camps; one claiming that the noises coming from the console when it's shut off are normal, others pushing people to replace their console because it's apparently broken. Noone seems to deny that these sounds appear commonly
- even if they aren't supposed to.

Are these sounds "normal"? Should I be worried? Have you experienced this yourself?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hey there,

If you have your console set to "Instant On" this is going to be normal. The console is dormant, but not fully powered off. This allows you to boot it up quickly, download updates while the console is "off", etc.

I have both my Xbox One X and my Xbox One S set to Instant On and if you put your ear close enough to the console when they're "off" you'll hear a faint electrical noise. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Since you say it still continues after a full shutdown have you checked to see if it's coming from the power source rather than the console itself?

It is definitely in Power Savings mode and not Instant-On. The noise continues after the Full Shutdown.

I'm as certain as can be that the noise is coming from the console itself and not the power source.

I've tried it in a multitude of sockets, the problem persists, whereas other consoles and a PC don't make any noise at all in these sockets.

If you feel its electrical i would get it checked for safety.

Have you checked all your connections power outlets. Maybe swap the plug to a different socket . 🤔

The xbox makes the same noise, when on and off. It's almost like the Xbox never shuts down. I don't mind it making noise when it's on, but when it's off and I'm trying to sleep it's pretty annoying.
