Xbox One S keeps shutting off when my son is playing

My son is getting frustrated with our Xbox One S randomly turning off while he is playing. The console is not overheating (it is still quite cool to the touch when it happens, sits in the open - not in a cabinet or under anything), and it is not turning
off due to inactivity. Even when I play it longer than he does (thus generating more heat), it does not happen to me. He does not have any settings enabled to allow automatic shut off, and this happens in the middle of a game -- not when loading, etc.

Please don't just cut/paste the standard answer about overheating, blah, blah, blah. I blow it out regularly, the room is air conditioned, and it is never hot.

So, what might be happening?

It could be something internal. It really may still be a ventilation issue. Which could require servicing. How old is the console?

Thanks for reaching out to Forums for advice on how to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this problem.

I can totally understand how this could be frustrating for your son. I would say that if it is happening while playing a game, then it would be best for you try the steps @CyberKnoxx to see if there is anything up with your power supply internally.

Another troubleshoot that you can try to see if there's anything up with the console perhaps having problems with problematic data, is what we call a soft factory reset of the console. It's a reset of your console to factory defaults that does not uninstall
any of your games/apps. When you have made sure that your network is easily accessible and that you know the sign in information for any of your important accounts, follow the steps outlined in here in How
to reset your console to factory defaults on Xbox One and choose the option denoted Reset and Keep my games & apps.

If neither that nor the steps provided earlier, it would mean that your son's console is indeed need of a service repair.

When you get a chance, give those steps a shot and let us know how that helped.

Hello, sorry this is happening to you.

Is the console being moved from one location to another? For example, you play in the living room and your son plays it in his room. The reason why I ask is to make sure that the console is plugged in directly to a power outlet, not to a surge protector.
It could be that the console is not getting enough power.

It is definitely a strange situation as you've stated that you play the console and nothing happens.
