    Hi guys and gals,

    I just got a new Xbox One S console 500Gb and I swear when I turned it on there was only ~360Gb of storage available!

    Surely that can’t be correct? All the consoles system files etc can’t possibly take up over 100Gb of the built in storage?

    Am I missing something?

    External Storage Not Supported at Launch

    Microsoft's Major Nelson has stated that initially the Xbox One won't support external storage. This means 500GB is the max HD which people will be able to have for the console. He also said it's going to happen in the future, but it's currently not a top priority.

    What did you need that for? I managed to set it up without it. Are you trying to connect to a network? If so, you could just skip it and then get the MAC address before setting up the network separately.

    That is correct actually. Whenever you buy a hard drive (not just an Xbox hard drive) the amount of usable space is actually lower than what is stated because of how the space is calculated. Then you add all of the system files and it takes up a bit more.

    That is correct. When i got my original Xbox One 500 GB model it also only had about ~360GB available.

    I can’t play, uninstall or reinstall fortnite.

    I’m using an xbox one S and no i have no external storage attached it was downloaded onto my xbox. And i forgot to mention that even when i uninstall the game when i restart my xbox it shows up in the games tab still. Not sure if that’s further relevant but i forgot to add it to my initial question.

    You can only put it in an internal memory or storage card

    Now I'd you are saying you have a Xbox one S

    That isn't a series s

    Series consoles.are different and are not considered Xbox one nor is it part of the name

    Also any games.that are meant for the series consoles has to be on storage card or.internal memory

    Xbox one games works regardless of Xbox one s or og or one x

    And you can use any storage

    But for Xbox series consoles there is only s or x not one s/x

    And only games on optimized nvme or the Xbox nvme storage card will download the series version

    If you put it on external it would only download the Xbox one as you arent running thr optimized nvme

    Xbox difference

    Hi there,

    the difference between a regular Xbox One s and a Xbox One S 1TB will be that the 1TB version will have a 1tb storage device and not a 500GB storage device.

    So the 1TB which is about 1000GB will have approx. twice the storage amount compared to the 500GB version.

    Keep in mind that if needed the storage space can be expanded by connecting an external storage device (USB 3.0 and at least 256GB) to expand the available storage on any Xbox One console.
