Xbox One S In Surge Protector/Extension cable

Hi,

I have an Xbox One S, and have read that Microsoft recommend plugging the console directly into the wall outlet rather than a surge protector (as it has its own surge protection built in and can interfere with power draw). It seems
they still recommend this for the original Xbox One, but no longer mention this on their support page for the Xbox One S.

However, my Xbox One S is ever so slightly too far away from a wall outlet to do this.

My Xbox One S has recently stopped turning on (currently arranging a replacement) after making a slightly strange noise for the last week (even when off and in energy saving mode). Seemingly the consoles psu is playing up.

I really have 3 options, for the replacement, and was wondering which would be the best:

1) Use my existing surge protector by my tv stand that all other devices work ok in (and the Xbox One S worked fine in for nearly a year, so perhaps not the issue)

2) Buy a longer, same spec power cable from somewhere else

3) Use a non surge protected extension cable for just the Xbox One S

The power to my new x box one gets disconnected automatically after a short time. I have changed my power adapter many times but the problem continues.

Is the Xbox one plugged directly into the wall

Or

Is it plugged into a power strip, surge protector

Please make sure it's not on any power strip, extension cable, surge protector or battery back up.

 

Wall Oulet or Extension Cord or Power Strip/Surge Protector

Will it hurt an original xbox to use an extension cord or Power Strip/Surge Protector as its power source? I've read that 360 should be plugged into wall and am wondering if the same is true for original Xbox. My wall outlet is full and it would be helpful to me to plug my xbox into a Power Strip/Surge Protector or use an extension cord. I have one of the power cords that has its own surge protector. Don't know if that's pertinent info but thought I'd me mention it just in case.

 

Plugging the console directly into the wall socket & not using a surge protector applies to all xbox one models.The S & X models still have built in surge protectors.

I would advise not using any type of surge protector or extension cable.

I have picked up a single socket extension cable (without surge protection), and a longer Figure 8 power cable. Given that the cable that comes with the xbox one s is too short, which would you think is preferable?
