  1. Xbox One S Headset Jack

    Hello,

My son got a new Xbox One S console for Christmas 2017 (ie. 5 months ago). We have now had to ask Amazon three times to send a whole new Xbox bundle because the controller has stopped recognising the headphones (Amazon cannot just replace the broken part,
apparently). Each time (I have just done it for the third time) I just remove the new controller and put the broken one back in the box and send it straight back. It's getting embarrassing. But if it stops working...

Is there a recognised design or manufacturing fault with the female headphone jack on the controller, and if so, are Microsoft doing anything about it? And is there a way of repairing it? I will keep doing this until the guarantee runs out, at which time
I will have to either buy new controllers every month, or repair them.

For now, I have said to my son to leave the headphones permanently plugged into the Xbox controller, as I'm thinking the mechanical action of taking the jack in and out is causing the damage. Which it shouldn't.

    Thank you.

    James

    :)

  2. Xbox one X headset compatability

You'll ideally want a headset that connects with a 3.5mm audio jack, that way you can simply plug it into your controller.

Since the Xbox One X fully supports all existing accessories that the Xbox One and Xbox One S supports, you can see here about compatible headsets: Connecting Compatible Headsets | Xbox One

Confusion about XBoxOne headset vs. controller compatibility

    Hi

The two headsets that you have listed above have 3.5mm jacks on them that will connect to all Xbox One controllers that have the 3.5mm jack. If you have an earlier level controller without the 3.5mm jack port then you will require the headset adapter or
    chatpad below.

    Xbox One S Headset Jack

I have not heard any issues with the headphone jack. What kind of headphone is he using?

  5. A quick search brought up a few posts about issues with controllers not syncing with headsets. It seems to me that most of the issues are with the Xbox One S controllers.

When I got my Xbox One S, I didn't like the feel of the controller at all so I never bothered to even try playing with it. I have an Elite controller anyway, so it wasn't like I would've used the OG controller if I did like it. Now my wife uses the One S
controller with her Xbox One since the OG controller had been pretty much worn out. She uses it with a set of Turtle Beach headphones and it did [a lot] and sometimes still does suddenly start to get static-y and crackles. She has to unplug/re-plug the headset
    which... usually... works for awhile.

I blew compressed air into the headphone jack opening on the controller in an attempt to clear out any potential dust that may have gotten in, which seemed to help, but I think the problem may lie in the controller's headphone jack itself.

As Miick09 asked, what kind of headphone? Is it a standard MS headphone and/or have you tried another headphone to see if that's what is causing the problem? A few things to check would be see if the controller needs a firmware update, making sure that the
headset is plugged in when you do so. Also, a few people have said that restarting the console and/or re-syncing the controller have fixed their issue, albeit temporarily.

Aside from that... and if it comes down to the idea that "I will keep doing this until the guarantee runs out, at which time I will have to either buy new controllers every month,..." why not try getting an OG Xbox One controller now, just
to see if it solves the issue? As I've said, I didn't like the One S controller anyway and if memory serves, it's the only controller I've had that ever caused any issues with headphones.

  6. Thank you for both of your replies. My son uses the HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro Gaming Headset, that replaced his Turtle Beach headphones, which he still has but which were too staticky. Are you saying the controller for the original Xbox One works with the XBox
One S? That's an option, if it happens again, but hopefully this new way of leaving the headset plugged in will work. Thanks again.

  7. OK, first things first. Have you checked to see if the controller firmware needs an update? Changing from the TB headset might require one. You may also want to go into Settings, Display & Sound, Audio Output and check to make sure that the proper audio
is being output to the headset itself. Anytime I make any changes or firmware updates, I restart the console... even if it isn't 'required'... just as a preventative measure. But that's just me.

I would check into those options before considering a new controller. But yes, the controllers for XB1 and XB1s communicate with the console the same way. As I said, my wife uses an XB1s controller on her OG XB1. I have used my Elite controller on both of
our consoles (XB1 and XB1s). There's not much difference between the OG controllers and the "S" controllers except some ergonomic changes. The older XB1 controllers didn't have a 3.5mm jack, just FYI, so keep that in mind if you do eventually try that route.

Also, are you using the 3.5mm jack or are you using the USB adaptor with the headset? I only did a quick check on the HyperX Cloud Alphas and it looks like you can use either. If memory serves, the XB1s controllers have both jacks. It might be worth a try
to switch and use the other jack to see if that helps.

head set not being XBOX are no longer working

Third party headsets are not banned, xbox is ok with whathever headphones or headsets you use in your controller, but is only for new xbox one controller like the xbox one s controller, for the older controller you need an adaptor, the keyboard expantion
works with the 3.5 mm jack

Xbox Speaker Audio Format Changing after Headset Use

This does not occur if I connect the same headset via wire/headphone jack to the controller.

It only occurs when connected wirelessly to the Xbox one S.

    Please fix.

headset adapter for xbox one S controller

Hello Jabsa, for what I saw here, you don't need a adapter for Xbox One S controller, just for the Original Xbox One controller. So you can simply plug your headset directly to the headset jack on the controller.

    Hope it helps.

    best regards

    Xbox One Controller Specifications

When the original Xbox One launched there was no 3.5mm port for headsets. This jack port wasn't added until 2015. So before that this port was used with Xbox One specific headsets or you could purchase a headset adapter to use for your headsets that required
    a 3.5mm jack.

Nowadays it's used with the chatpad and some headsets still use it. But the 3.5mm jack is still what most people use.
