Xbox One S HDR washed out

There are reports across reddit and other forums that the Netflix app with HDR enabled washes out colors on screen. I verified this when using my Vizio P55-C1 the orange system theme itself turns a washed out color of orange. Also the Netflix app color turns
from a profound red and white color theme to a dark and maroon dim theme. The Xbox One S seems to not put out any HDR content at all by what the Vizio P55-C1 app is registering. All native apps register and external sources register HDR. There is a distinct
quality difference between the Xbox One S Netflix app and casting to the Vizio or running directly from PC. This is strictly a Xbox One S issue. All my cables are capable of delivering this content through my entertainment system.

Hdr washed out colors and dimmer during hdr content

    Hi,

I have a LG OLED65B7V (2017 model) and this is driving me nutz : 4K HDR is enabled and all the indicators are green from xbox video settings.

    - On Netflix TV app the HDR is working perfectly : HDR videos do have real blacks, they are not washed out at all (tested on marvel defenders)

    - On Xbox One S Netflix app : the same video is washed out in HDR (non HDR videos are fine AFAIK). It can be easily seen on intermediate black pictures which are gray

    - But most of all (because I can handle using netflix TV app) the bluray 4K are washed out and I have no solution to this except to reduce the brightness from TV settings. Regular blurays are fine. Tested with Wonder woman 4K bluray

This is weird because it seemed to me that HDR was working fine at first on xbox one s. I tried a factory reset with no luck.

I also tried to connect the TV directly to the Xbox instead of the receiver, tried PC RGB instead of limited range...

    I am out of ideas...

  3. Xbox One X and S Dull HDR Issue

    Hi,

I am having issues with HDR on the Xbox one X and the Xbox one S.

I have the following HDR TV's

    Samsung UE49KS7000

    LG 49SJ810V

Both of these TV's are capable of HDR and should work with my Xbox one X and Xbox one S. The issue I am having is when HDR is picked up the screen suddenly has a horrible washed out dull look to it.

There is a work around which is to take the TV's out of game mode but the problem with that is I get really bad latency.

    Any ideas????

Xbox One S HDR washed out

I'm having the same problem with my Vizio P75-C1.

Netflix app shows washed out colors, and so does Forza 3 Horizon

Only UHD HDR Blurays are working... Very frustrating, especially after paying $99 for the early access to Forza.

  5. Same problem here with Vizio P75-C1. Found this thread by searching for issue, thinking perhaps I had something set wrong.

  6. same issue here. I have a Samsung js8500. The color wash/fade happens with anything that supports HDR. I've called Xbox multiple times but their representatives have no idea. Very frustrating.

I am having this issue both for Netflix and UHD HDR blu rays. I just got a Sony XBR55x850D which
does support HDR. I have properly configured the HDMI ports to pass 4k. Also when checking the TV's capabilities within the Xbox settings, I have green checkmarks for each 4k category.

I will open up Netflix, and the initial white background and red font will show up. Then as the program loads, the HDMI will cut out for a second as I'm assuming the HDR is kicking in (when it shouldn't be) and the colors look faded and and terrible. If
I go back to the dashboard and quit the app, the HDMI cuts out for another second to disengage the HDR and viola, the picture looks great again.

A similar issue is having when trying to watch UHD Blu Rays (Sausage Party). The initial load screens occur, then the HDMI cut out then a faded terrible looking picture. This happened consistently with the player.

The very strange thing is that sometimes the Netflix app will open per normal switch to HDR and look just fine. There is no pattern, just insanely maddening randomness.

If I disable HDR, then there are no issues.

Simply put, HDR on Xbox One S is broken and Microsoft needs to fix it. This is not a TV issue.

Xbox One S HDR washed out

Just to fully prove this issue is completely on the Xbox side. I loaded up the Netflix app on my Smart TV. Pulled up Marco Polo which is a HDR show. When watching through the native app on my television, there is NO washed out look and the picture looks
    fantastic.

This is not a tv setting or tv issue. This is a Xbox issue that needs to be fixed.

  10. yeah I've been having this problem for about a month. It's definitely on the side of Xbox. I'm having the exact same issues as you. I've called Xbox multiple times but the representatives are clueless. All they ever tell me is the same useless troubleshooting
over and over again. It's very frustrating

Unfortunately, same issue here. I have just bought a brand new Philips 65PUS7502/12 TV. I turned on the UHD Colour Mode 4:4:4/4:2:2 on my TV to make all the 4K checkmarks green on my Xbox One S.

When I started GoW4 the HDR Signal notification appeared on the screen but the game looked very dark and colours lacked saturation. All I could do on my TV was to increase brightness to maximum but it harly helped. I am an owner of a PS4 Pro too and sorry to
say but SONY engineers did a far better job while implanting HDR to their systems.

  13. Xbox One S HDR washed out

That's odd because I have zero problems with HDR games but UHDs and Netflix look washed out. Tried aftermarket 4k 60Hz 18Gbps HDMIs and still the same issue. UHDs and Netflix look better with the HDR turned off which makes it pointless to even have HDR on
the XBOX ONE other than games. This issue has been around since the XBox One S released and I dont think it'll get fixed. I am buying a One X and I am praying this isnt an ongoing issue with MS consoles.
