Xbox One S HDR UHD and Netflix Playback.

Whenever I attempt to watch HDR content either on UHD Blu Ray or Netflix HDR content on my Xbox One S, I get a really washed out image with grey blacks and very low contrast. On the same TV and the same ports I get a perfect HDR picture using a Samsung
UHD Blu Ray Player or PS4 Pro.

If I push the Xbox Home Button to go to the dashboard the colors seem to correct themselves, but when I enter back into the movie the pictures changes, like a crappy filter being put on top. Has anyone else had this issue? I've tried using every combination
of Bitrate, Color Space, HDMI Port, and setting and cannot get around the issue.

This is kind of a complete waste for me if the Xbox One S can't even play UHD Blu Rays properly.

For what it's worth, I'm watching on an LG OLEDC6P. Also note that in games I don't have the same issue.

    :)

  2. XBOX ONE S poor HDR support with UHD BluRays

I'm having similar issue with HDR content especially through 4K UHD Blu-ray playback. There seems to be no fix for past 10 months. This is very poor of Microsoft to ignore. Now that Xbox One X is out, it too have HDR issues with 4K UHD player & Netflix app.

Having the same issue, Epson 5040ub w/ Xbox One S, HDR isn't working on anything (UHD, Netflix, games) despite receiver and all cables being HDMI 2.0a / 4K HDR supported spec.

    Hey Leon!

Sorry to hear about the issue. It sounds like you've tried a lot of things so far. Can you go into your console settings and
disable "Allow HDR" and see what happens? If your screen doesn't change, that would confirm that it's an issue with the HDR itself. If that's the case, you'll want to reach out to LG for support. That's an issue that we've identified as being on their
end of the "Xbox One - LG" communication.

Let us know! Xbox One S HDR UHD and Netflix Playback. :)

    Hey Miss Bijoux,

If I turn off "Allow HDR" then the content plays as normal. The washout only happens during HDR video playback and nowhere else.

I contacted LG support on this after some investigation on my own. I noted that by checking my signal on the receiver HDR video playback on the Xbox One S is 10-bit RGB at 24Hz.

All other devices I've used seem to use either 12-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 60Hz (PS4) or 10-bit 4:2:0 60 Hz (HDR Blu Ray Player) for their HDR content. LG Says they don't support 10-bit RGB.

Now here's where it gets interesting. HDR Games on the Xbox One S come through at 10-bit YCbCr 4:2:0 60Hz. So I tried disabling the 24Hz signal in the Xbox One S.

Now it puts out a 10-bit YCbCr 4:2:0 60Hz signal when attempting to watch HDR video... but the dimming issue still persists.

Thanks for that extra info, Leon!

I noticed that you said that according to LG, they do not support HDR 10. Just because some of the content (ie games) the Xbox One is working in HDR 10, that does not mean that everything will work in HDR 10. Just as we are technically unable to support
third party accessories, some work and some don't. And if they work, we'll do our best to troubleshoot them but if they don't work, we are unable to help.

In this particular case, LG has already advised that your device does not support HDR 10. The issue at play is not one that is on the side of the Xbox One but rather your TV. If you have a friend with an HDR 10 capable TV, I would recommend bringing your
console to their house and testing it out to see the difference.

Sincere apologies for any frustrations this may cause.

Xbox one S, Netflix dims screen when HDR is enabled

Same problem on Hisense M7000. UHD Blu Ray playback is stunning but Netflix HDR is dull, brightness dims as soon as you play it.

Please get this fixed asap as it renders HDR netflix useless for me.
