Xbox One s - HDMI quits when games starts

output is set to 4K, UHD, HDR10, 24/50/60 Hz - this has been working for several months

now, when I start a game, TV displays opening screen, then the screen goes black, then the TV says there is no signal. but you can hear the sound from the game and sound when using the controller. I can hold the Xbox key, hit up, then A to turn off it off.
then hold the Xbox key to turn it back on and see the Home screen. problem first noticed on Far Cry 5 but also occurs on Monster Hunter: World.

following some online ideas, I disabled HDR10 in the Display Settings. now the black screen transitions to the game.

so why is my Xbox One S all of a sudden having a problem outputting HDR10?

this was all working yesterday...

tried a different HDR10 source into the receiver, displays HDR10 on the TV just fine

tried various hard resets - no change

Have you checked the setting for HDMI port you connect your console to on the television to check and make sure this has not somehow changed and this is now preventing your Xbox One from displaying the 4K and HDR image.

Hi, I see over on that other forum that you didn’t accept the latest firmware update for your Tv, is that still the case? If so I’d certainly do that update.

Same port. Same expected port. Remember the first post..."this was all working yesterday"? Literally. Was working fine on Friday night. Did not work on Saturday morning. Has been working in this same configuration
since I bought the receiver in September.

Power cycled the TV (had been 'up' for a week). Enabled HDR10 in Xbox Display Settings. It worked but was not sending HDR10. Reset and power cycled Xbox.
Now it works AND sends HDR10. Go figure.

Obviously the TV deserves some blame. But, if the Shield works in HDR10 through the receiver to the TV and the Xbox does not,
then in the end the Xbox is the majority of the problem. Something about how the Xbox transitions to HDR10 is flaky or faulty.

This should be reported to engineering. Maybe its a quirk. Maybe its a problem. As a hardware interface firmware/software programmer of some years, -I- would want to know
about such problems.

One System Update Solution a try. When you get prompted about what kind of system update issue is going on, select select
I AM EXPERIENCING A STARTUP ISSUE and then BLACK SCREEN. Go ahead and give the troubleshooter a try and let us know the results.

Thanks for the response but your post points to troubleshooting for SYSTEM startup not GAME startup.

The game console itself starts up just fine. The opening screen on the games starts just fine. From what I read, these are all in 1080p despite 4K settings. Then, when the game starts the Xbox apparently transitions to 4K HDR10 - THAT is where it now
fails.
