Xbox One S HDMI Audio Delay

I recently purchased a Samsung UN65KS8500FXZA 4K TV and a Xbox One S. I am getting audio delay of about 1/2 second. So when someone shuts a door the sound is about 1/2 second late.

This only occurs when I set the Xbox HDMI audio to Bitstream out and Dolby Digital or DTS. If I run an optical audio cable directly to my receiver it is fine. So that is how I have it setup now but I have to change the input on my receiver each time I use
the Xbox. I also have an Apple TV hooked up with HDMI only and the sound is fine and it is outputting Dolby Digital surround.

I went to BestBuy where I purchased the TV and Xbox One S and the guy said someone came in with the exact same issue today with his Xbox One S but he had a Sony 4K TV. So it does seem to be an issue with the Xbox One S using HDMI audio to stream Bitstream
out Dolby Digital surround. He said to try a different HDMI cable but wasn't confident that would fix it. But I gave it a shot anyway and purchased a Rocketfish HDMI cable that officially supports 4k UltraHD HDR but this cable had the same issue.

    :)

  4. Xbox One S HDMI Audio Delay

    Hello BOND,

First, let me say good work on testing other equipment and paths to try an isolate the problem. The fact that the HDMI 1.x on the Apple TV works with no audio delay points to something in the HDMI 2.0 path. But, where? The Samsung TV, Xbox One S, or both? While
I might agree with you that this doesn't seem to be a HDMI cable issue. It is recommended the we use a HDMI 2.0 cables to be

    HDR10 compliant
. Indeed, Sony is still having problems with their own TVs and PS4 using HDMI 1.4 for Ultra HD. Sony says yes,

    HDMI.org
says no. Again, I don't think this is a cable problem. But, to go the extra mile you might try something else instead of the (Best Buy) Rocketfish. Other than that I can only speculate that this a settings issue deep, deep inside some menu some
where. Or, a piece of some firmware waiting to be updated.

I have an Xbox One and Xbox One S. But, I have yet to get an Ultra HD TV. So, I regret that I can't offer any real firsthand help with the issue. I'm still waiting for the dust to clear on all this stuff before jumping into the land of Ultra 4K HD TV.

    Good luck and good gaming,

    Onkyo Surround Sound Issue

    My home setup is:

    • Cable Box to Xbox One HDMI input
    • Xbox One HDMI out to Denon HDMI input
    • Optical Xbox One out to Denon optical input
    • Denon HDMI out to Sony TV HDMI
How much delay are you talking about? I have noticed that the audio coming from the TV speakers (comes from HDMI) is not perfectly in sync to the audio from the optical going to the receiver. Yet, the delay is not enough that it should be a noticeable problem
unless intentionally using both. I can't tell there is a sync between video and audio when using either, but I can hear able 20-30 milliseconds between the two, with the sound from the TV speakers being delayed the most.

Are you seeing this dlay when using other video, such as cable TV (using HDMI in with a cable box)?

Some receivers have settings that allow changing the audio delay a little. I don't know if these extend to optical or are just for speaker setup.

As a side note, I have an Onkyo receiver at work. I haven't heard any audio issues with it that I haven't had at home.

Thanks for getting back with this, I'm very interested for this to get resolved and to understand what the underlying issue is.

S/Pdif to RCA Audio Adapter for Xbox One

Xbox One has 2 outputs - one HDMI and one Optical Audio (s/pdif). HDMI carries both audio and video. But if you want to send your audio to a receiver that does not have HDMI inputs, then you can use the optical output from Xbox One. PS4 is exactly the
    same.

And William is right - if you try converting HDMI to DVI, you will lose the audio on both Xbox and PS4 (unless you are using the separate optical output for audio).
