Xbox one s HDD to SSD

I've been struggling deciding whether or not to get my Xbox repaired after it bricked itself after an update .first newer generation console I invested in and my only option is to send it in to Microsoft to pay half of what I originally bought the system for new .this is unacceptable and if doing it myself risk's a console what other options would there be? My console has been out of warranty since before the bricking from the update so am I just screwed either way and should try replacing the drive myself before using the console as target practice . FYI my Xbox one S is the special edition gears of war with the 2tb hard drive ..thanks Microsoft glad I've been buying your products since the original Xbox just to have this be the result after almost 20 years of being a part of Xbox

Series S. it seems to be any game. I haven’t found one I can play directly from the hard drive yet. In honesty I haven’t tried many but seemed odd that I haven’t found any yet?

The only games that would be directly playable from an HDD would be Xbox one games.

Xbox Series X/S games can only be stored but not played from an external HDD. Those can only be played from either the internal ssd or one of the WD or Seagate expansion ssd's that plug into the back.

The reason is the Xbox Series X/S games are setup to take advantage of the speed of the internal ssd. For comparison Internal SSD has raw read speeds of 2.4 GB/s whereas HDDs would only be a max of 500 MB/s.

It's because the Series S/X are new gen. They require the xbox SSD. You are using an HDD. SSD's are way faster than an SSD, the series s is trying to run the 120fps and higher graphics. Thats why they are telling you to move the games. It wants you to play them on the internal SSD storage.

Hey Milo, unfortunately HDDs are incompatible with Series X/S games. You will have to shell out the several hundred dollars for their SSD card to expand your X/S storage. You can, however, play Xbox One and 360/Classic games with an HDD, hope this helps.

The One X came with an HDD, not an SSD. The Series X/S are the first consoles with an SSD as standard.

The original OP was asking about visual game quality differences on an 1080p HD TV between the original Xbox One and the Xbox One S, which there wouldn't be any in their case. It was mentioned that the One S was a revised version, being smaller, no power brick and having 4K in certain scenarios, but not worth the upgrade if they were thinking it gave them better graphics.
