xbox one s grinding noise

xbox one s (with disc drive) makes grinding noise. does this on startup, randomly when drive isn't in use and when you press the eject button. discs won't go in or out (i can't tell if my son put a disc in there and don't know how to determine whether
or not that's the case). i'm about to send it in for servicing unless someone's got a possible fix. i've seen the recommendation to flip the device and tap over the disc drive, but that did not work.

I've tried contacting support, but regardless of issue (device won't read discs, order a repair) I can't interact with a live agent--says option isn't available for that particular problem.

Well, a 'grinding' noise certainly doesn't sound good. However, my Xbox 360 S will make a short, loud whirring sound sometimes, which is perfectly normal.

Yeah. it's a sort of grinding noise. Unfortunately now is broken. It turns on but is not starting up and makes the grinding noise.

My Scorpio Xbox One X (which arrived today) has been running pretty quietly, perhaps even quieter than my Xbox One S.

Is it running hot? Be sure to give it some "breathing room" so it can ventilate enough air to keep cool.

Do you have a disc inside? Is that making the grinding noise? If so, do other discs cause the same noise?
