Xbox One S flickering in Destiny

There is a flickering issue that keeps popping up in games. It is very noticeable in Destiny. It looks like the contrast flickers. It sometimes goes away after a hard reset, but eventually comes back. This never happened on my elite xbox console. I also
have a brand new Sony XBR-75Z9D which is fully HDR & 4K capable. Others have posted about the same issue on AVS forums on different brand 4K sets. See video in the link attached. I followed all of the proper setup information from Microsoft as well... So it
can't be that. I feel it may be a bad S console. Or does it need a firmware upgrade?

Xbox one s color 10 bit issues.

I have the same issue with my Samsung KS9090 + Xbox One S. When I play Destiny I notice screen flickering in the character screen- and only when I choose 4K+10Bit color. All the other games and HDR Blu Rays are running fine in 4K and HDR, except Destiny.

 

Xbox One S audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution selected.

Hi guys I have the same problem audio cuts out when gaming for 1 sec when using 4kuhd on Xbox one s I have a lg oled c6p also when playing destiny there is a flickering in the picture it goes away after switching the Xbox one s to 1080p and back to 4uhd
but comes back very few days i hope they fix this !!!

Does this only occur in Destiny? Or does the flicker occur during normal use on the Xbox dashboard, browsing the store, using streaming apps, etc?

Does the issue occur if you set the TV resolution on the Xbox One S to 1080p? Keep in mind this setting only affects how content is scaled, and native 4K/HDR content will show up as long as 'Allow HDR' and 'Allow 4K UHD' is checked.

Try these steps below and let us know how it goes:

• From the Xbox One guide, scroll down to 'All settings'.
• Within the settings menu, scroll down to 'Display & sound' and select 'Video output'.
  
• Under TV resolution, select 1080p.
• After 1080p is selected, scroll down to 'Advanced video settings' to ensure 'Allow HDR' and 'Allow 4K UHD' are selected.
  

Be sure to pass that information back to us, and let us know if the steps above eliminate the stuttering issue in Destiny.

I'd also like to chime in with something!

Usually TVs nowadays have a built-in motion smoothing feature. This feature is more designed for watching movies, and not necessarily games. This kind of image post-processing the TV performs may be the cause of the flickering.

Disabling that feature on your TV might help -- consult your TV manual on how to do so.

 

I had the Xbox S set to 4K which my tv is. I did what you said and it fixed the issue. IMO it looks better set to native 4K. Shouldn't I be able to have it set on 4K because that is what my tv is? Hopefully this just needs a firmware upgrade.

 

I.E. I turned off smoothness and I believe it helped! I'll post again later if the flickering comes back.

 

Thanks I.E.! After turning the smoothness off in my TV's settings the flickering has not come back and it's been good for a few days now.

 

Unfortunately the flickering came back in 4K & Destiny. I think it may have something to do with not quitting one guide/watch TV before starting Destiny? This really needs a fix. I even went out and bought a new Xbox One S and it does the same thing.

Sorry to hear the problem came back. To clarify, have you tried checking for firmware updates on the TV as well as updates on the console?

 

Yes all are up to date. I am a preview member too with the latest firmware as well.

Were you able to confirm if other games run into similar issues? Additionally, does it ever occur in Destiny if there are no background apps running? That will help us narrow down the issue a lot.

 

Sorry. How can I make sure no background apps are running? I will run a few more games to find out if it is just Destiny. I 'm also confirming the flickering does not happen when I set the console to 1080p it is only happening when it is set to 4K...

If you have a look at your recently played apps, which are listed on the dashboard under your currently opened game/app, you can force close each app by pressing the menu button on your controller while each app is highlighted and select 'Close'. Alternatively,
you can press and hold the power button until the console fully powers down, boot back up, and only launch Destiny to test it out.

Well I checked other games and it is not happening. I just got Gears 4 yesterday and I can play in 4K HDR with no flickering at all...
