    Xbox one S first time setup without TV


    Hi !

    Recently I bought "Xbox one S" through Red Friday deal but things got little complicated afterwards. I don't have TV and I want to use my Xbox with my laptop and I believe one should setup his/her Xbox first by installation which is done by Xbox itself after
    connecting it to TV. So my problem is how I can setup my Xbox without TV so that I can use it on my laptop.

    Some important information:

    I don't have HDMI input port in my laptop but I do have HDMI output port in it.

    Feel free to ask if I have missed anything

    XBox 4K TV details screen - only TV resolution is green check box. Using HDMI that came with XBox One S.

    Using with new Samsung 65K850D, SUHD TV.

    TV did auto detect XBox on setup. XBox One S was bought first then TV last week. XBox resolution is set to auto detect, always has been.

    If you don't have a HDMI Input on your laptop then you won't be able to use it as a display for your Xbox.

    Monitors with HDMI and speakers are quite cheap these days.

    Not sure if direct connection is needed - or if you can use network cable and stream video over to pc.

    Or xbox app or similar.

    Ah yes, streaming is a possibility that I hadn't considered.

    Do you have any kind of computer monitor at your home? One with HDMI would be perfect but HDMI to VGA/DVI can be bought pretty cheaply. Use the monitor to set up your console and then stream to the laptop (providing it is running Windows 10 that is).

    So that fact that your laptop only has a HDMI OUTPUT kind of pretty much ruins any easy way of getting your console to work directly with your laptop.

    As others have said you could stream your console to your laptop, but I get the feeling that you would have to tell your console to stream every single time, which I would have thought would require a TV or monitor.

    Easiest way would be to just buy a cheap TV/monitor.
