  1. XBox One S: First game updates failed, now all system update attempts fail, even OSU* downloads

My family bought an XBox One S for Christmas - our first XBox - and until a couple of weeks everything was working fine.

About 2 weeks ago my son tried to install a 10Gb Just Cause 4 update, which simply stopped downloading at 94.5% (the download rate, which was between 30-50 Mb/s goes away). No amount of re-installing or resetting of the worked.

    We tried:

    • Uninstalling and reinstalling the game, allowing the network update - no change
    • Uninstalling and reinstalling the game, not allowing the network update, then apply the network update separately - no change
    • Clear the "alternate mac address" in Settings > Network > Advanced Network - no change
    • Turn off XBox, unplug for 30s, re-plug, turn on again - no change
    My son finally stopped trying.

Then we bought Halo (the MC collection) a few days ago and were able to install it and start playing CE, while the 75Gb update started downloading in the background. After about 15%, the download stopped again. Un-installed, re-installed, no love. We tried
all the same as above, multiple times.

While troubleshooting I decided to try to check for a system update (for most of the time we had the console it has NOT been set to automatically install updates). There was an update available, so I tried to install it. The 445Mb download gets to 90% complete
(44mb left) and stops, with a "There was a problem with the update" message. The error code is 0x80072efe (yes I know that by memory now), which all research says points to a network problem.

I have reset my router, switched from wireless to a wired connection, reset my cable modem (Cox), and I am able to use the network from all other devices in the home. Tried the same series of network clearing and console resetting tasks as above.

More research led me to attempt to perform an Offline system update. I do not own a Windows PC but I have a Macbook Pro with the ability to create NTFS volumes/disks, as described in the offline system update documentation. I tried to download the
OSU1 update file from the browser but the download failed a few times.

Switching to my trusty terminal, I attempted to download the file:

    Code:
    blackglass:Downloads me$ curl -iL http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/3/E/03E07EBE-ECF2-44B7-9DEF-56A758CAE9C7/OSU1.zip > xbox_update.zip

curl: (56) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer
I have tried this download 6 or 7 times now, and each time the connection is reset at 265Mb downloaded. More research led me (in desperation) to try and download the
    [b]OSU2[/b] update:blackglass:Downloads me$ curl -iL http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/2/9/829B7C2F-BDEA-4A5B-9EC3-7594412EFD71/OSU2.zip > xbox_update_2.zip

curl: (56) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer
Several attempts resulted in the same connection reset before completing (in this second case, after 1516Mb each time).

I have now blown through my Cox bandwidth limits for the month XBox One S: First game updates failed, now all system update attempts fail, even OSU* downloads :)

I've been in tech for 20 years, though I'm not really a Windows user. I cannot figure out where the broken downloads might be coming from, and I'm out of ideas.

    :)

    Hello,

I poke around on the router from time to time but all my other devices (mostly Apple) do not have issues.

The odd thing is that almost always the downloads start but then fail after a certain - seemingly random, but consistent - amount has been downloaded.

XBox One S: First game updates failed, now all system update attempts fail, even OSU* downloads

    Good morning!

    An update one my progress:

In order to isolate network issues, I took the XBox One over to a family member's house to experiment. Once I had the box up on their WiFi (Cox modem with built-in wireless), I was able to download and install the system update (now on .4085) and install
    and update Just Cause 4.

I brought the box home, and tried to re-install/update Halo MCC. The update behaved the same as before, downloading some 40% before simply stopping. I will be testing again today, but would love to hear any feedback on router/network settings I should look
    at.

After some research, I did check the NAT status on the XBox here and it's set to "Open".

    Thanks,

Ok, Halo update with the firewall on the router (Asus RT-AC66U) turned OFF:

Failed again after 3.71GB downloaded (the update simply stops - no Mb/s status, and no error).

Next step (probably once my work-from-home day is done) is to reset the router to factory and try again.

    This is phenomenally frustrating.

When you do next power your console on can you please try to connect it to your internet connection using an ethernet cable to eliminate any possible WIFI issues as causing the problems. Also does your router have a flood protection option in the settings
that may possibly be getting triggered when your console is trying to download stuff.

    Some info for reference:

I ran the network tests from the XBox One, with the following results:

    • Test Connection: Success
    • Test Multiplayer Connection: Success
    • Detailed Network Statistics:
      • Download: 60Mb/s
      • Upload: 8Mb/s
      • Packet loss: 0%
      • MTU: 1480
      • Latency: 31ms
      • Wireless Str: 100%
