As stated in the title, my Xbox one fan is constantly loud/fast I can hear it right now about 6 feet away while it's idle. The fan speed doesn't really increase too much while playing games, it's just always pretty loud. Is this normal or something I should
    be worried about?

Xbox one s fan constantly loud/fast even when idle.

    Hello hcky4life831,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We recommend making sure the console is plugged directly into a wall outlet. Also, power cycling the console by holding the
Xbox button on the console for about 10 seconds is able to assist with this issue. If the fan continues to malfunction, we recommend requesting a repair through the

    Microsoft hardware
website. The hardware team will need to investigate why the console's fan remains on. There are options available for devices that are out of warranty. The
Xbox Support Team is also able to assist with repairs. Be sure to let us know the results!

Xbox one s fan constantly loud/fast even when idle.

My Xbox One fan does not turn off from start to power off. It is in a well-ventilated area and the air coming from the fan is cool, is not on auto start , there are no background downloads, it is plugged into a power strip and or a socket with no difference.

I have read your responses and it looks as though you were trying to avoid the obvious. There are multiple online responses stating Xbox One has a very loud fan and Microsoft even pledged to replace some of them back in 2014 . Please explain why the Xbox
fan runs at full speed loud with no weird noises when just turned on and remains on the entire time is there an issue with a sensor being blocked by dust? Along with the other folks my Xbox is out of warranty and I am stuck with a loud fan.

I am not just noticing this in a quiet setting and quite frankly that is a bit presumptuous and rude. Microsoft cannot try and blame it's users for just "thinking the fan is loud" while in fact it's designed that way.

    Any thoughts?

One more thing, it's in a well ventilated area, not just shoved in a cubby somewhere.

    Hey there!

Thanks for posting. Has there been any performance issues that have occurred in correlation to the fan noise? If the fan kicks in while idle, that mainly indicates that your Xbox One S could be in the process of applying any pending updates.

One thing we can try out is fully powering down your Xbox One S console by holding the power button, remove power from the back, and let it sit for 5 minutes before plugging everything back in. Aside from that, my main recommendation is to keep an eye on
the behavior of the Xbox One S. If you notice that the fan noise becomes more and more audible as time goes on, or performance related issues start popping up, your Xbox One console may need to be repaired.

Hope this helps, please let us know if you have any further questions!

  6. ☝️Same

I have the same problem. It's gotten much worse over the last year. It's NOT clicking. No performance issues.

Just a super loud fan on CONSTANTLY.

Occasionally resetting the unit will stop the fan for a little while but it really doesn't go away which sucks because it's the hub of our media room. All tv and streaming go through this box.

It's well-ventilated and so is the power supply. I blow dust out of it frequently. in the internet offers no solution because anytime I try to search for the problem I am instead presented with the clicking noise issue which is discouraging. Any threads
I have found with this issue have little or no reply let alone the solution.

    Any help is appreciated.

Since you say you blow dust out of it frequently: Are you using compressed air to blow the dust out? Do you make the fan spin by blowing compressed air into the console?

If you spin the fan by blowing compressed air on the fan, you might have damaged the bearing in which the fan is running in, and the bearing is now worn out, which can cause the excess noise.

So if you do not experience the clicking noise, but more of a constant buzzing or humming sound from a worn out fan bearing, you need to send in the console for repairs.

The console has built in temperature sensors, that regulate the fan, so the console doesn't get too hot. Should the fan fail or the console get too hot, the console will automatically shut off to prevent damage. So as long as the console is not showing an
error message about overheating, it's running fine.

However, if the console is still in warranty, you should get the fan serviced while still in warranty, if the noise is louder than normal from a worn out bearing.

Thanks for the Insight. I do blow air inside the console to keep it clean and I may have spun the fan so that's a valid theory.

However there's no excess noise or noise outside of normal operation. The nose is produced from the fan that's always on.

If there's nothing wrong with the fan control that means there's something wrong with the CPU or whatever component it's attempting to cool.

It's been over a year so would warranty even be an option?

I'd doubt that there is something wrong with the CPU or other internal components, otherwise the console would not work properly, or really overheat.

So it might also be a "subjective" issue, that you just recently had a particularly quiet scene in a movie or game, and happened to hear the fan more prominently, and wondered, if the fan is having issues. So you concentrated on the fan noise more than usual,
and since the fan by nature is not 100% silent, you certainly hear it all the time.

Also keep in mind, that if you have the console in Instant On mode, that the console is running update tasks even when the console is put into standby. While doing updates, the processor is running and unpacking stuff, which requires some heavy processor
work, which has to be cooled by the fan.

Maybe if you made a video of the console running the fan, and uploading that to YouTube or something like that, so we can hear how the fan is running might help to see if it really is an issue, or if you are literally "hearing things".
