  1. Xbox one S fails to read discs if it is turned off and back on while a disc is present

I am having this major issue on my Xbox One S (500 GB Halo Bundle) where if I leave a disc in the drive and turn if off and turn it on later it will fail to read that discs or any others until I restart it without any disc. This means I can't just simply
keep a disc in the drive that I play often when I turn my Xbox off. I have my Xbox on energy-saving mode and got mine exchanged for another xbox one S that does the exact same thing so I don't know if this is a software or hardware issue.

    :)

  2. Xbox one s failing to read disc games randomly

If I leave a disc in my Xbox one and turn it off and then turn it back on later the disc will not show up and no discs are able to be read after that. The only way I can get it to read discs if that happens is to hard reset it which is very annoying. Is
anyone else having this issue? My first One S had this problem so I returned it to the store only to get a 2ND brand new one with the exact same issue.

Xbox will only read certain discs.

The laser in the DVD ROM is starting to fail on your Xbox - I've seen this myself on an old console. It will start with a few discs being flakey in terms of reading, while others work fine. Then some discs won't read at all and the others will start following
this pattern until no discs read, giving you the "Open Tray" error where it doesn't even recognize a disc is inserted. A disc cleaner or blowing out dust might help for a short while, but your console will need repair. If it is less than a year old, then warranty
will cover it. If it is out of warranty I believe the repair cost is about $100.

Can't read the update from the disc. Please reinsert the disc to continue the update.

I found this on the update errors website.

    -

The software update failed while reading from the disc. Try the following:

Make sure that the disc is clean.

Put the disc in the disc drive and then turn your console off.

Turn on the console. The update process should complete.

Note The disc you insert must be the same disc that was in the console when the update began.

If you continue to get the same error, try the following steps:

    Turn off your console.

Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 E console or Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.

Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.

    Turn on the console.

    Try updating the console again.

Xbox one still not able to play dvds of any sort?

    Hi,

To put it simply, the Blu-ray drive has two laser's built into the drive. One for reading DVD discs and the other to read Blu-ray discs. Xbox 360 games and DVD films use the DVD disc format, while Xbox One and Series X|S discs use Blu-ray discs. If one or the other lasers fail, the console will be able to read one format but not the other.

This isn't something you can fix yourself. You would either need a new console or get your console repaired. Note however that the original Xbox One is no longer supported for repairs from Microsoft.

My Plants vs Zombies GW2 disc, wont work.

    Hi NonstickTax04,

Sorry you're having issues with your disc not reading. This could be due to the disc, but it could also just be a hiccup in the OS. First try doing a hard reset. With your console on, hold the power button down for about 8 seconds until it just turns off.
After it's turned off, then just turn it back on and see if it reads the disc. Also, see

    this article
    on troubleshooting disc problems.

    Simple Enquiry...

Xbox One discs are Dual Layer BD-ROM discs 50 GB, which is pretty much standard now. In addition, the One S and the One X can also read UHD Blu-ray feature film discs. Neither the One S or One X can read BDXL discs, I don't know enough about the hardware
to say for sure if this is due to a hardware or software issue. Note that despite the similar storage capabilities, UHD Movie Blu-ray discs are factory pressed, while BDXL is a writable format largely for burning discs with a PC.

Despite the One S and the One X's ability to read UHD discs, they will not be used for Game media.
