Xbox One S fails playing Ultra HD Blu-ray

I would try another HDMI cable and/or port on the tv.

 

This just happened to me. There's something wrong. The engineers are supposedly working on this and they said they would contact me in 2-3 days.

 

I thought Microsoft specialized in software. Hahaha Man it feels like the old Xbox 360 days all over. Welcome to the nightmare fellas!

 

Hey guys -

We are aware of isolated reports of a small number of Ultra-HD Blu-Ray titles that may not play on Xbox One S consoles. Rest assured, our engineering teams are aware and are investigating. Your console does not need to be replaced or repaired.

We certainly want to get to the bottom of this and we have a few troubleshooting steps to try to help narrow this down fully.

First what we'll want to try, is clearing the Blu-ray Persistent storage on the console by doing the following steps.

1. Navigate to
2. From Settings select Disc & Blu-ray
3. Highlight and select Blu-ray
4. Select Persistent storage and then Clear persistent storage.

Then try playing the Blu-ray and see if it works.

If not, we're going to want to next try playing the movie with BD Live turned off and here's how to turn that off.

1. Navigate to Settings
2. From Settings select Disc & Blu-ray
3. Highlight and select Blu-ray
4. From the Blu-Ray screen you will want to uncheck Enable BD Live to improve Blu-ray playback.
   

Another option is exchanging your current Blu-Ray for a new one to see if the disc is the cause of the issue.

In just a few days from now, it will have been a month since the Xbox One S launch and this disaster of an issue. Microsoft claimed this box would play UHD Blu-ray Disc, but I believe they have failed the paying consumer with this flaw. Their "engineers
are aware and investigating" but the support staff is still trying to solve the issue by having people clear the persistent storage and uncheck enable BD Live to "help narrow this down fully." Enough with the same old troubleshooting steps and give us an app
update or tell us the system is just not as capable as advertised. Most retail return policies will be ending here soon for all of the pre-ordered and launch day systems. Will we see a mass return of systems?

 

Console does not need to be replaced or repaired but changing discs is an option? That's a rather obtuse notion. It's like "don't blame the hardware, blame the discs" but when these same discs work with other UHD players you kinda get the feeling that hardware
should be replaced.

Manufacturing is the same for every disc, disc is not the problem if it works elsewhere. Fix the hardware and stop telling people to exchange their discs. Just another 30$£€ in the toilet that doesn't work on your XboxOneS.

 

^^This.. Ive tried different high end 4k hdmi cables as well. So people with different branded tvs and different movies and content having the only thing in common with each other is the xbox one s, all experiencing the same problems, but its definitely
the discs.......

Also my copy of Deadpool plays 90% of the time, yes it cuts out every time, but only 10% of the time will i actually get an error or the screen just goes black or freezes.

 

Already tried clearing persistent storage and enabling/disabling BD Live. The problem remains unchanged. Uninstalled/reinstalled bluray app, problem remains unchanged. Lucy, Oblivion, and Huntsman Winter's War all won't play at all. Even for discs that do
play, performance is bad with lots of users reporting freezing and random black screens.

 

Non of the suggested fixes worked form me either. But for those with just picture drop outs, repliker the inkluded hdmi cable since it's not good enough for Ultra HD Blu-ray.
