    Hi Guys,

    Disappointed to find out i probably have a faulty Xbox / HDMI retimer issue.It has only gotten about a 100 hours use or so as I dont use it much. Been working fine then recently i got 4k TV and projector. Still worked fine for a few weeks then on the Projector
    it stopped displaying 4k, It would only go up to 1080p, On the TV it seems to still work fine at the moment. Tried all the settings, tried changing Cables multiple times, different sockets etc. Then finally i looked it up and spoke to a couple of people who
    had similar issues and it turned out to be the HDMI Retimer chip. Unless it was some strange firmware / software update that has caused this but i cant figure out what that could have been.

    Sadly I dont feel like i got my moneys worth out of it considering how little use it had. It will probably have to be relegated to the bedroom TV for occasional usage and I will need to get another xbox as i want and use 4k all the time in my system. Anyone
    have any ideas what else it could be instead of the chip issue?

    Hello EgorHomyak,

    Thank you for your post. I understand you are looking to connect an HDMI 2.1 cable to an Xbox One S. Though the Xbox One S has a HDMI 1.4 connector, HDMI 2.1 is backwards compatible, meaning it will display output from your Xbox One S without issue.

    This is pretty frustrating that it's a known issue, warranty or not, and they continue to be sold with faulty HDMI retimer chips. I am in the same boat just a few months after warranty expired.

    Hi and thanks for reaching out. I hope you’re doing well. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be happy to help you.

    If you have soldering and electronic repair skills, it could be feasible to change the HDMI chips or retimers from two different Xbox consoles, but this is not advised. Any mistakes or damage sustained during the swap could result in additional problems or leave the consoles useless because the HDMI chip or retimer is a delicate component.

    Additionally, there may be other problems with the consoles in addition to the HDMI chip or retimer, thus changing the component may not always solve the issue. It might be worthwhile to try to fix both consoles if they are out of warranty and you have experience with electronic repairs, but you must do so carefully and deliberately to prevent causing further harm.
