    Hi all just recently found out that the disc drive that I had removed from my current xbox one s was meant to be kept when replacing out the actual disc drive units, my questions are do I require the old board from the old disc drive or was that just a myth I had heard? Is there a way to convert a disc model xbox one s to a digital console ? Currently won't turn on due to not having the disc drive fitted so cannot remove anything off the hard drive

    Hi Mikey! I'm Rostom, an Independent Advisor. I will be glad to help you here.

    They do not really recommend that we open our consoles ourselves as it might result the console to be broken completely. If it's no longer in warranty, it would be best to have it checked by a local technician. We do not know here the hardware structure inside. If it didn't start when you removed the disc drive, there may be a component that's attached to the drive that must not be taken away.

    Aren't you able to attach the old disc drive back?

    Xbox One Series S - I'm confused

    You have names mixed up. There are no consoles named the Xbox One Series S or Xbox One Series X.

    The Xbox One/One S/One X all have a disc drive.

    The Xbox One S All Digital Edition does not have a disc drive.

    The Xbox Series X has a disc drive.

    The Xbox Series S does not have a disc drive.

    All the consoles can play backward compatible games. The Series S and One S all digital edition can only play games digitally downloaded.

    The other consoles can play games from disc and from digitally downloaded,
