Xbox One S Died, what about save games?

Our one s just died, and have not had luck at the local repair shops. It blacked out while we were playing, and will not power up or reset. Does not appear to be the black screen of death glitch or a bad power brick. It was looked at by a repair shop
that I’m fairly confident in as far as competence and honesty. They have no idea what is wrong.

I’m less concerned about the cost of a new unit than the 100’s of hours of save games potentially lost. I’ve heard on some boards that just logging into your MS account on a new console will allow access to your save games because they are in the cloud.
That seems too easy, and I don’t remember ever setting something up for that. Also, we have an external usb drive with a lot of data on it.

Can anybody offer some info please? Mainly, is the save game data always in your ms account cloud, or do we potentially have to try to recover from the physical hard drive in the failed unit? Have a couple of very upset kids worried about their Ark dinos
and Skyrim characters.

If it makes any difference, we do not play online at all, 100% local.

You say you only played local, but I assume you were connected to Xbox live? If so, you won't have lost much data, if any. As others have said, it's all backed up .

If you get new console and use same profiles, the first time you reload a game, it'll sync with cloud, and restore data. No setup required on your part

Your games and game saves will be there when you sign into your account on another Xbox. So you are good with that. And it sounds like you might need a new power supply for your Xbox S. Are you connected to the Internet while you play? If you do, then all your saves will be backed up in the cloud and can be downloaded after.
