Xbox One S Controller won't charge

So I noticed when I took the power pack from my original controller and put it in the S controller and then plugged in the play and charge cable, it would do the vibrate from charging and in the top right corner of the screen it shows the charging symbol,
however the led light on the cable didn't come on and after about an hour and a half of charging, the power level was unchanged.

Anyone know of a remedy? The console already did the controller update when I first turned it on.

    :)

Xbox One S Controller won't charge

I have the same behavior with my new Xbox One S controller. However, the controller will not work at all with the plug and charge battery. Does your S controller at least power on with the battery?

I have the same issue with two of the new controllers. The battery packs work fine, but when plugged in and should be charging--no led on the cable. Tried plugging the cables into the XBOX One S and into USB charger on the wall, but no lights indicating
charging. Please tell me it's not going to be that the plug and play doesn't work with this unit... As it is, I'm a bit miffed at having to use one of the two USB ports on the back to power the KINECT--I have an external HD that I installed the games on
that uses one port, the KINECT uses another, and that only leaves one free port to charge two controllers. Anyone from MS support with an answer???

    Hey everyone!

Has anyone tested a different USB cable to see if there is any change with your charging situation? If not, let's give that a try to see how it goes. Keep us in the loop Xbox One S Controller won't charge :)

    Same.

The cable will keep my Xbox one s controller active but the light won't come on and it isn't charging.

It sounds to me like the controller needs some kind of update to allow the old Xbox one battery.

Hey there mixedinkey and St Anger20.

Were you able to test a different USB cable to see if there is any change in your controller's charging ability? Please give that a try and let us know, thanks.

Yep, and no difference! And regardless of the sub cable the fully charged play and charge battery does not work with the slim controller!

My battery pack works with the new controller, but it does not charge like many others. I've tried numerous USB cables. The cables and both battery packs I own work with my old Halo 5 controller, but there has to be a compatibility issue with the One S controller
    and its firmware.

Xbox One S Controller won't charge

For the sake of bumping this topic:

Yeah, I got the same problem. Play & Charge-kits don't function with the Xbox One S-controller.

I think it's something to do with the current controller firmware, because it's not the same as my old controller (without the 3,5mm. plug).

Also my Tritton/Turtle Beach-headset adapter doesn't work with the XBOS-controller.

So...problems with the firmware? Any answers to give?

P.s. I've seen pre-order batteries for the XBOS-controllers at my region (www.coolshop.fi/.../AB4TE8) so it might be some shady Microsoft-policies
too Xbox One S Controller won't charge ;)

I was having the same problem, s controller wouldn't charge so I was using my old controller to charge the battery packs (I have 2) and when I swapped the packs I noticed one fit slightly different in the s. One pack went in easier and I decided to try
plugging it up again with that one in and it worked fine. The light came on and it charged normally. Mayne there is a slight size differnce in older vs new play and charge kits that cause a misalignment?

To add to this (and bump it) I'm having the same issue. I just got a new Xbox One S to replace my original One. I have two controllers, and older one without the 3.5 mm jack, and the new one that came with the One S. When I plug the new controller in, it
turns on and works like a wired controller. But the amber led on the cable does not turn on and it won't charge the battery pack. It works just fine on the older controller. I've swapped cables and batteries between the two controllers and get the same thing.
The older controller always charges while the new one never does. I've updated them both to the latest firmware. Has anyone figured this out yet?

    Rechargeable battery pack

    Hi,

Seems to me you bought a Series X|S controller? To tell the difference, the new controllers have an additional 'Share' button, a more refined along with a non-slip surface on the rear of the controller.

The Series X|S has a different battery compartment so the 'Stealth' batteries won't fit. In addition, the new controllers use USB-C for charging. The Venom charging station was designed for the Xbox One controller that uses a Micro USB connector. You can't attach Micro USB to a USB type C port.

Does Xbox One S have rechargeable batteries for there controllers?

How do I plug it into the console to charge the controller on the Xbox One S?

Does anyone have the xbox 360 controller drivers??

Did your controller ever work before, or are you just trying to get it to work now?

The drivers for the Xbox 360 are not available for download independently anymore, and there is no reason for them to be, as Xbox 360 controllers have been natively supported by Windows since Windows Vista. The drivers can't be downloaded because they are already part of the Windows Operating System.

Is your controller wired or wireless?

Unlike Xbox One or Series X|S controllers, Xbox 360 wireless controllers are always wireless. If you've attempted to connect a Wireless Xbox 360 controller to your laptop with the Play and Charge cable, it won't work. This is because the Play and Charge does not send data. It will just flash. Xbox 360 wireless controllers need an Xbox 360 gaming receiver.

Only Xbox One or newer Series X|S controllers can be both wired and wireless.
