    Xbox one S controller suddenly stopped working


    Earlier today, I was using my Xbox one wireless controller on my quest via Bluetooth (as I normally do). I set the controller down for a few minutes to get food, and when I came back, it wasn't responding at all. I figured it must just be dead, and so I
    replaced the batteries with brand new AA'S. the controller turned on, but it seems to have forgotten how Bluetooth works. I have been unable to connect the controller to any device I've tried (the quest, my phone, laptop). The controller does, however, work
    perfectly fine when plugged into a computer. Before suggesting a fix, I have already tried the following:

    1. Updating firmware through accessories app on a post-anniversary update windows 10 machine

    2. Deleted, disabled and reinstalled the drivers for windows to recognize the controller

    3.I have forgotten the controller in Bluetooth settings and reset my network settings on my devices

    4. Used different usb cables to update, and verified that I am I'm the latest October 2019 firmware once again

    5. Tried different batteries in the controller, even other new sets

    6. Tried moving away from interfering devices

    7. Have tried power cycling the controller

    I have no idea why this is happening, as the controller worked flawlessly thus far. I literally left it on my bed for 15 minutes and it just died on it's own...

    I have not yet plugged it into an Xbox one (I don't have one anymore), but I have heard that this may fix the issue. Is that true?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is beyond infuriating. I just got the controller (which is out of warranty now, but it is brand new as a friend got it extra as a gift and only used it once or twice). I have been using it without issue for
    about a month, so i have no idea why it would randomly stop working like this

    Controller firmware update for headset adapter

    I have not validated the version of firmware, but I know it suddenly stops working. To update it, I plug the controller in and update firmware. I do this for both controllers. Then it will work for a couple of weeks and suddenly stop.

    Hi IgnoredSubset,

    Thanks for your post. I understand that your controller's 3.5mm jack is no longer recognizing your headset and not playing sound. Try checking out this article to troubleshoot your controller:

    Xbox One Controller Troubleshooting    . Usually issues like the one you've described would indicate that the controller is in need of replacement due to damage made to the 3.5mm jack.

    I have not had any issues with my controller since i got my console. Bought the One X at my local launch.
