Thank you for posting on Xbox Forums! I understand the frustration of not being able to use a headset with any of the controller but I will be happy to assist you today. Just to clarify, when you mentioned that you've already, "done all of the obvious things-
upgrades etc." what did you mean by that, and what troubleshooting have you done exactly?

Have you already tried to
Update the Controllers through the settings? What about
Power Cycling the console or
Performing a Soft Factory Reset, (Keep Games & Apps) of the console? I would suggest trying the headset on another device, such as, another controller connected to a different console or a phone or laptop. This will be to check to see if the controller
is at fault or if the headset is at fault.
