Xbox One S Controller Functionality Issues

I bought a new controller about 6 months ago and it was working perfectly until a few days ago. For some reason, the right joystick will randomly register in the up direction even though it is not pointing upwards. It also registers in a way like some
is pushing on the stick hard. Its not a light drift that is common when the sticks start to loosen and wear down. The controller is updated and has no signs of wear or looseness on the right stick. Im running it on an xbox one x. This is actually the second
controller I’ve had this happen to. Both controllers are in near perfect condition and the problem arose after only a few months of use. They are both limited edition controllers too which is very upsetting. They are basically not usable at all with this issue.
Does anyone know why this problem could be occuring or know a solution?

Hi,

There could be an issue internally with the controller joystick thinking it's pushing in the upwards direction. I would recommend taking it back to the store from which you purchased the controller. If it was GAME or CEX they could be covered under warranty
and they may be able to fix it for you. If not take it to a Microsoft store, or registered dealer, and have them take a look for you.

I would not recommend try to rectify this issue yourself.

It is a stick drift, a common known problem. Do you have a warranty for it? It is a good thing using stick in cleaning alcohol and go around it. Maybe it helps. If not, repair is requered. So sorry.

There is no Bluetooth radio component in the Xbox One S console itself.

The controllers connect to the Xbox One S the same way the controllers connect to the original Xbox One: proprietary RF. You could technically connect an Xbox One S controller to an original Xbox One, and an original Xbox controller to the Xbox One S.

The Bluetooth functionality in the new Xbox One S controller is specifically made for connecting the controller to a Windows 10 PC with the "Anniversary" update, which has the drivers needed for the controller when connected via Bluetooth.

I'm pretty sure the Bluetooth function of the controller is not to pair with the console, but rather a Windows 10 PC, or Windows 10 Mobile Phone (yes its confirmed). I am under the assumption the Xbox One S will not have Bluetooth, otherwise the Xbox One
S would just be a Bluetooth controller.

You can use a regular Xbox One controller on an Xbox One S console, and you can use an Xbox One S controller on a regular Xbox One console.

All controllers connect to the Xbox console the same way, via proprietary RF.

If you are confused because of the addition of Bluetooth in the Xbox One S, just know that Bluetooth is only built into the Xbox One S controller (there is actually no bluetooth functionality in the Xbox One S console itself). The Bluetooth in the controller
is just a secondary method of wireless connectivity designed solely for connecting the controller to a Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth (without the need of a
USB adapter). It connects to the Xbox One/One S the same way as the original controllers do.
